Can anybody tell me your experience with Dogtown .224 bullets in 55g? Which is usually more accurate SP or HP? I have a 20" AR with 1:9 twist which really likes the Speer 55g TNT but the Dogtown are going to be on sale at Midway making them much cheaper than the TNT round.

I've shot a bunch of dogtowns .All of them have been the soft point version.I buy em whenever they come on sale.Try never to have less than 1000.

I have also shot & keep both on hand. Same poa, boh go under and inch @ 100yds. Many .500" groups. Both pop coyotes & p-dogs. They are a surprising good bullet.

I have them sitting on my shelf in .17, .204, and .224 and maybe they are not the best, but sure a good bullet for the buck. My .204 has shot its best groups ever with the 34 grain Dogtown.

I am not in danger of running out of bullets any time soon but will always keep a couple thousand Dogtowns on hand.

I have never used the dogtown bullets from Midway, but I have shot thousands of the Midsouth Varmint Nightmares. They are accurate in my Savage, RRA Varmint AR, and BCM AR. THey are also cheaper than the Dogtowns.

Same bullets, different sellers. If you have used Dogtowns then you have used Varmint Nightares and vice versa.

Well, just who do you think is paying for those Midway commercials that Larry Potterfield is alway running?

Have bought a boatload of stuff from Midway over the years. Lots and lots and lots. But they are not always the cheapest. Sometimes they are and sometimes they aint. Look around.

Product Information

For the high volume shooter requiring the utmost accuracy at an affordable cost, MidwayUSA Dogtown Soft Point bullets can't be beat. Developed with the popular bullet manufacturer Nosler, these extremely consistent bullets are sure to produce tight groups at various ranges. Keep them under 4,000 feet per second and they will probably outshoot your best barrel! Don't miss out on this exclusive opportunity to purchase premium bullets at bulk bullet prices. This is not loaded ammunition.

They are cheaper from Midsouth, Because Potterfield is a crook, Have you LOOKED at what they charge for "Shipping"??!!

The thing that most people run into, even if they aren't smart enough to know it; is the RPM Limit.
Especially in AR's or any fast twist rifle.
MidGuey tells you to keep them under a VELOCITY. That is about as helpful as telling someone to not wipe with a cactus, if they don't want their arse to hurt...

240-260,000 RPM is max for those bullets.

MV * 720 / twist = RPM

So barrel dependant 3200 fps is all a 9-twist can take.

I have heard, but not verified, that both, Midway & Midsouth, are made by Nosler. Years back somebody posted that his wife worked in Nosler's plant in Oregon and could attest to making the bullets.

BTW, I have good luck with them in 22, 20 & 17 calibers. I always have a stock of them on hand.

Thanks for the info Rustydust. I was just looking at these bullets yesterday and maybe I will order some to try. Anyone know how the fur holds up on foxes with these bullets from a 22 hornet?
