dogtown hp vs varmint nightmare x-treme hp ?

when I load the nightmare x-treme hp's the OAL stays within + or - 1/1000
when I load dthp's the OAL varies anywhere from 2/1000 to 5/1000
since all bullets are actually seated by the ogive, meaning the part of the die that seats the bullet does not touch the tip of the bullet but seats by touching the ogive.
What makes the dthp's vary so much ? Could it be that the dthp's are being bought by Midway USA as seconds ? How much variation in OAL are you guys seeing ?

I noticed that the jackets are real soft in the dog towns. Like the varmageddon s. when is seat I'd always see a donut on the bullet. If you hve a comparator mabe you could put the 24 in you head snd mike up a couple bullets easy and see if they are actually different to the ogive. The seater die doesn't seat on the ogive as much on the meplate of the bullet and since every bullet is different it would be an expensive habit if you had to buy an actual ogive seater for each individual bullet. Just my thoughts on it, but I've been at work way to long to think rationally.

Several things have potential to alter oal, such as:
Softer jackets may deform under seating pressure, especially if mixed headstamps cause variations in seating force/neck tension.
Seating plugs may match some bullet ogives more closely than others, causing bullet deformation on softer or more poorly fitting bullets.
Some seating plugs do actually contact the meplat and may deform or flatten the bullet under seating pressure
Manufacturing tolerances may not be as tight.

Does the variation you have noted affect accuracy?

If I load the varmint x-treme with oal of 2.215 and then load the dogtowns with the seater left where it was for the x-tremes the dogtowns load to oal of 2.200

The x-tremes are considerably more accurate than the dog towns, even the dog town sp's are more accurate than the dog town hp's
