I loaded up 50 fresh rounds of 80 grain Berger HP's pushed by 26.0 grains of H4895 yesterday for my 6X45 AR-15 in hopes to get a Dope Chart set up for my scope I have on it (a Nikon P-223 BDC 600).
I got out real early this morning before the wind had a chance to kick up much and got the new AR500 steel target set up and started shooting.
I started out at 200 yards, then went to 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, and 500 yards.
Here's the target when I did my shooting at 300-400 yards, 3 shots at each yardage..............
and here's a pic of my 3 shots on the target at 500 yards.............
I repainted the target a few times in between shooting different sets of yardages and shot up the rest of my 50 rounds shooting in between yardages like 275, 325, 375, 425, 475 so I was comfortable with about every yardage from 200-500 yards in 25 yard increments. I kept notes and went home and came up with this Dope Chart for my scope to put right on the gun...............
I have this gun zeroed @ 75 yards which re-zeros again about 175 yards.
The whole process cost me 50 rounds of loaded ammo, about $25 worth since I loaded it myself, and a couple hours of time and 1/2 a can of spray paint but I'm really, really confident with this gun shooting this particular load all the way out to 500 yards so the time and $$$ spent was well worth it!
I also did some shooting with my 20 practical and got it all figured out on how it will shoot a load I've got using 32 grain V-Max's out to 500 as well but I'm not going to get a Dope Chart set up for it just yet as I want to do some load development using 39 and 40 grain projectiles first as I'm thinking I want to shoot those primarily once I get a load figured out for it.
