DPMS Dedicated 22lr Upper

Midway is out of stock on it, but it's listed at $180 per brick from them..Ables has it for $168, Natchez has it for $177 per brick..

It's Federal's Gold Medal Ultra Match...Our "Vintage Benchrest (.22lr) rules have a dollar limit on the ammo that can be used and this is way out of their specs, so I haven't been in a hurry to buy any of it...

The stuff I have and was from the Olympics just isn't specified as Ultra Match...Federal found out that there was a demand for it and re-classified the earlier stuff..as well as the prices for it..

I'm betting the barrel shoots better as it fouls because it's probably overbored for .224" bullets. I believe the .22LR are a bit smaller. Lapua used to make some match ammo that had varieties for tight or loose bores. I'd be curious how the loose bore variety does in it. Can you try inserting some bullets in the crown end and see what kind of fit it is? I'm betting the ones shooting better will have a tighter fit.

OT I picked up a Ruger Mk III hunter the other day and have been shooting different ammo in it.I guess it does not have much to do with what you are working on but this is what I found so far.
The Aguila Has not showed much promise as usual for me.The Wolf Match did quite well. The plain Fed Match did best but not by much. I was surprised to find that CCI Stinger is hanging right in the running which I thought odd as it is 37 grain and not considered by most as target ammo.My pistol has a 5.5 inch barrel and I changed the fiber optic sight to a black target sight with square notch in back adj.base.I am liking the way things are looking. With more rounds down the barrel I think it is going to be a shooter.I am going through a period when shooting my rifles is just to much work for me so I am enjoying the .22 pistol.
Do any of you know anything about Armscor Precision.22 ammo, its listed as 36 grain HP,High Vel,but does not list velocity numbers.

I doubt that is has a match grade chamber though...They tend to be pretty finicky about feeding issues in semi-autos..I know that some have ceramic chambers and the owners have to be really careful about cleaning processes and can't use bronze bristle brushes on them...

My 10/22s that have the carbon fiber barrels won't stand much sustained fire due to the tight chambers without routine cleaning in between, but this upper has been through quite a torture test and still functions really great, just not producing bench type match grade accuracy, but certainly enough for general hunting and action competition practice in lieu of having to run factory .223 ammo..

tnshootist, That's the first I've heard of the Armscor ammo... I'll have to check around and see if I can find some locally, here in FL...There are a couple of well supplied shooting supply shops within a 45 minute drive...I really like the idea of the lighter weight bullets at higher speeds...They tend to shoot a little flatter...I'm not sure what the difference is in the designation between High Velocity and Hyper Velocity...Most of your standard match grade ammo is running at 1080 fps, and Hyper Velocity is generally running in excess of 1400 fps...Something else for me to check out...

If no repair parts are available for it, I guess I'll just use it for a trotline sinker when it does eventually break.

What I DO know is that I will NEVER again buy anything proprietary from DPMS. Burn me once, shame on you...

Just got spair parts for the older dedicated DPMS .22 upper along with magazines Large Caps generation 3 models " COLT/DPMS all fit fne and worked with no flaws.

Ref: DPMS/Colt .22LR Recoil & Buffer Spring Kit 1 $12.50 $12.50
DPMS/Colt .22LR Replacement Firing Pin 1 $30.00 $30.00
DPMS/Colt .22LR Extractor Kit 1 $35.00 $35.00

Mine has been one of the best toys I own. Runs at 100% from day one. Got the parts and mags just in case. Mags were an issue untill Blakdog started up a line for the FIRST DPMS uppers. Mine will never be for trade or sale.

Triggermaster,,, Thanks for the info,,I've passed it onto Terry in a PM...Good to know there is some relief for his situation...

Just got one of these on Friday, and took it to the range to break it in today. The upper shot flawlessly. At 25 yards I was putting them through the same hole. Next time down I will try some other loads, now that I have done Dpms's break in procedure. I also put Nikon's new p-22 scope with there new p series rings. Looks and works great, for$179 you can't beat it.

I wanted to revisit this a little as I'm interested in one of these.

OT could you try some 510b and CCI SV and get back to us on accuracy/consistency @ 50?

I have cases of both for my other 22's.

You might contact Steve Esping with DPMS and see if he has any info on that ammo...I know that DPMS reportedly has put around 800 rounds through the upper before sending it to me..

Looks like he is out of the DPMS. I was also not wanting the bull barrel so I dont have to get it threaded.

And it doesnt look like the CMMG dedicated upper runs the same type of bolt and carrier that I have seen pictures of the DPMS. Ill keep looking.

I couldn't find a dpms upper in stock so I started looking on forums. I found a Tac-Sol upper on snipers hide used. Should be getting shipped out in the morning. Hope to get some rounds through it this coming weekend.

jcurt,

About time I seen your post about Mark's Armory it was gone and haven't been able to find it in stock.

Even sent Kies (good reviews) a PM about thier uppers with no response.

A lot of upper reviews have been, well........not so good.

Thanks for looking.

If you run over to ARFCOM email I think Shadowcop (Dave S) about 22 lr uppers and he can help you find what your looking for (and for a good price). Although it might be a cmmg upper. Also Tim who used to work for Nordic (same as DPMS) is selling 22 uppers with lightweight barrels and target master bolts under Taccom3g (google it). Hope this helps
