Hey guys.. I have a dpms panther bull sweet 16. ( http://dpmsinc.com/firearms/firearm.aspx?id=12 is a link to the gun I have) ... I want to put a quad rail handguard or some type of rail system on the gun so I can mount a foregrip and light. I called the company and they said its a difficult process and it requires a gunsmith. Is this correct? I know it is a free floating style handguard but i feel like there is something I should be able to do. thanks for any help!

you can buy some plain rail, drill and tap your holes where you want them in the FF, just like you would do for a sling swivel stud. then bolt the rail to whatever side you are using. i always tap the holes and then put a locknut on it as well since foregrips can stress the connection. also use long enough of a rail so that you can put 3 bolts through it, each end and the middle. pretty easy, take your time. if you don't want to take the tube off you can do it with it on, just be careful with the drill. get a long set of hemostats to use to put the nut on the bolt, tighten from bolt head side.

If you pull up the Maryland Shooters forum sight,,, there are some guys there that do all kinds of "Do It Yourself" projects to ARs...

I picked up a couple of tips on mounting a flashlight to a M4 Carbine at almost no cost....There is probably one for mounting a handle there as well...

It's a Surefire with the on/off button switch in the end cap..works great with your thumb.. You can mount it to normal hand guard as well from their instructions...

With the DPMS standard hand guards, there is a heat shield under some of them that you need to attach to and pulling them off is not a big problem...
