DPMS LR-308

Hello guys!

I'm new to the forum and was looking for some info on the LR-308 by DPMS. I recently just ordered one but probably won't be getting it until fall sometime. I've had quite a few ARs all chambered in .223 but was looking for something with more knockdown which led me to this. I got the 24" bull flattop, definitely a bench gun.

So anyone have one of these? What can I expect for accuracy and how far can I reach out and touch with this? I'm thinking of a Nikon Monarch 8-32x, but am open to scope opinions also.

I reload for .223 but will start 308 when the time comes. Anyone have a good accurate recipe?

Thanks in advance ! From what I've seen this site there is a lot of knowledge floating around and a lot of good advice. Looking forward to being a member!

Welcome aboard Michael, glad to have you.

That rifle will be more accurate than it needs to be for a hunting rig. Or at the very least, the potential is there.

I have the same gun and been shooting it since about 2010. I usually run 168gr SMK and hunt with 168gr Berger Hunting VLD. Both shoot really well. I have run 175gr SMK in it as well and they shoot very good as well. Just so happens I have several thousand 168's for now and will use them up. I shoot mine out to 800 yds pretty regular with good results. As it sits, it weighs about 17lbs and I do pack it at a couple spots I hunt, but it is a load.

I have a DPMS-LR308 and it shoots very well. I use 175 Sierra MK and also the Berger 155 VLD hunting bullets. All give good results. Powders I use are Vihtavouri N540 and Ramshot TAC. Both give sub MOA at 100. I shoot mine regularly at 500 yards with great success. I also have used the Barnes RRLP 140 bullet with great results but they have discontinued this weight and went to a 150 grain I believe now.

I have the DPMS LR .308 AP-4 Carbine. I've had it about 2 years now, and it's been a great shooting rifle. I kept mine box stock with the iron sights, so I can't speak for any type of guilt edged accuracy. It's mainly a "fun gun". I run Magpul P-Mags and they feed flawlessly.

The only thing I changed was the stock and the grip. (The grip isn't shown in this pic.). I went to a Vltor E-Mod Stock because it gives me about a full inch added to the length of pull. I have long arms, and this helps. I also went to a Ergo Grip from Falcon Industries. My Bushmaster BA-50, .50 BMG rifle came with one of these. And since then I've changed all of my AR's to them. Other than that, the gun is stock.

I generally run 168 Grain Sierra Matchkings with 42 grains of Varget. Varget has a good burn rate for semi auto's. This load runs my 2 Springfield Armory M1-A's very well, and is highly accurate in all of my bolt guns as well.

Any advice on a scope from 5-700$ that would work good for out to 800 yards? Anyone heard anything about the Nikon M-308?

Thanks again

I had one and shot my loads in another two, all LRs. 46 grain of Varget, 175 MK and Fed 210m primers in Win cases, each was sub MOA, please start lower. They shoot better than they should !

I just bought a Nikon M-223 and installed it on my Bushmaster Modular Carbine with Leupold Mark IV Steel Tactical Rings. This model has the "BDC" Reticle, (Bullet Drop Compensating). I was going to go with a Leatherwood M-1000 "Camputer", but this was a simpler set up with no mechanical cams, springs, and all the rest. Simple is always better.

The reticle has small circles on the lower vertical crosshair that will give you bullet drop for various sight in distances, and on out to 600 yards. You can get a printout of your load by going to Nikon's website,

http://spoton.nikonsportoptics.com/spoton/

You must have Java installed on your browser for it to run. If you don't have it they provide a link to install it. It is a clean link that my Norton 360 verified, and installation was quick and painless. You select your load, (mine was Federal American Eagle 55 Gr. FMJBT). You then select your sight in range, (mine was 100 yards), then click on the "FIRE" button, and it will give you the trajectory for 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards that match the reticle. You can then print it out and keep a copy in your gun case.

If you change your load, all you have to do is go to the website, punch in the load, and get another printout. I know all of these ranging reticles aren't perfect, but this one gives you the distance from computable numbers, not from trying to stick some "average" deer's chest between 2 skinny lines you can hardly see, while the deer is running over all Gods creation. Those things always were a joke. I hope to get out to the range early next week and get this rig sighted in. My club has a range out to 500 yards, so I should be able to prove this thing out one way or another. I'll let you guys know how it all goes.

The optics on this scope are very sharp, bright and clear for a scope in this price range, ($200.00 + or -). It has nice large readable turrets with 1/4 minute clicks. The turrets have set screws, so you can reset them to zero after you get everything dialed in. So far the whole deal looks pretty nice. I'll know better after I run some ammo downrange with it.

I bought one two week ago, Oracle LR-308. I just ordered a new Zeiss 4,5x14x44 with a #72 Rapid Z 800 ballistic reticle for mine. I will get it next week. I have mounted a swain sleeve with high Burris xtrreme rings. I got a nice matching rail forearm and a CCA stock. Do I think it will shoot, heck yes. I have put 50 round thru it so far. I used a 10X mildot scope I had. It is a shooter, better than I can hold. Two more range trips, I should have the barrel broken in. I am shooting Magtech M80's now but will switch to my Lapua 155gr handloads after break in. The trigger in it is not bad at all. I do not know if I will spend $260 for a 3 gun trigger. Have fun with yours, I am with mine.

Thanks! I am looking forward to it. Right now I'm leaning towards a Burris MTAC 6.5-20, Nikon M308, or a Nikon Monarch 6-24. Not even sure how long the gun is back ordered so I have some time. I've had a few DPMS AR's and haven't been real impressed with the triggers, but I have some connections and can get a cheap trigger job to get it around 2.5-3 lbs. Can't wait!!
