DPMS Oracle

Is the DPMS Oracle a decent enough AR for calling coyotes?

I would like to be able to get it to shoot a 3 shot 3/4 inch group at 100 yards with 68-69 gr bullets.

How much does it cost to get the trigger to be decent for hunting?

Would this be to short of a gun for a taller person?

Yeah, I dont see why not. I don't have an Oracle, but I do have a plain-jane M4 style DPMS carbine, and it shoots pretty well.

Finding a load that will shoot 3/4" might take a bit of work. You'll either have to try out a bunch of different factory ammo or (if you reload) spend some time on load development to get there. I would say 1" groups would probably be a more reasonable expectation.

You can spend a little or a lot on a trigger. I think the best value for a really good drop-in trigger would be a Velocity or a CMC, which you can get for less than $150, if you watch the sales closely.

AR's, in general, don't have much in the way of length-of-pull. That's especially true with the adjustable stocks. However, the flat-top upper on the Oracle will give you plenty of room to mount optics, so you don't have to worry about being able to find the right eye relief. I'm 6'5" myself, and I don't have any issues with it at all.

Yes, it works fine for calling coyotes.
That should be do-able. I have some handloads worked up that produced less than 1" MOA, before the trigger replacement. I don't have that info with me at the moment
I recently purchased a AR Stoner replacement trigger from Midway USA for $30 at the recommendation of another PM member. I put it on my Oracle. It is a great trigger, perfect for hunting.
Should be fine, I'm not tall but it comes with a extendable stock, I use mine on the next to longest setting. I'm sure you can but longer stocks if absolutely necessary.

I started many years ago predator hunting with a Bushmaster M4. Straight up, carry handle, M4 Bare bones. Then I started attempting to improve it. Did the trigger, scoped it and that was when it's limitations started showing up.

You only have to shoot minute of coyote. The Mil-spec on an M4 is 3 MOA which can get it done for a coyote. Of course, that much of a variance does suck up a lot of your kill zone.

Might be a bit short, but you can get extended butt pads to accommodate, or just learn to shoot it.

But there are plenty of builders that can get you into something better for a good price that can out perform that Oracle.

I have a DPMS Oracle and it's a good shooter but, no where near 3/4" at 100 yards. That is with handloads. I yanked the barrel and put on a 20" SS barrel from EABCO and it shoots under .500 easily. Not me but, my grandson, shot a 5 shot group right at .403.

My POF 14.5" p415 was shooting 1-11/4" groups with about every load I tried in 40 gr NBT and 60 gr vmax. I had one load..25 gr of benchmark with the vmax that shot .4". I removed the 4.5 lb POF trigger and installed a 3 lb timney. The same group cloverleaved and shot a .3" group with my first three shots at 200 yards. Triggers make all the difference in the world. I almost bought a 308 oracle. I watched some guy shoot a fist size group or smaller on YouTube at 500 yards. I believe along with a light trigger, the right load, a solid rest, and enough of magnification will get you under a half inch group. You just have to put in the time to tinker. I've shrunk loads just buy changing to higher magnication. I know I'm going to start an argument with "that guy" but When your trying to shoot for groups that all go in the same little hole consistently at a 100 yards 9x and under just doesn't cut it IMO. Don't get me wrong, I've shot .4" groups with my 3x9 leupold on my Remington 7600 at a 100 yards with my reloads but it's the cross hairs are like barn boards covering up the target at 100 yards. You can always Switch to a lower magnication optic for hunting after load testing if needed. My favorite cheap optic is a Nikon 4.5x14 40mm prostaff 5. It's been my go to optic for testing the last couple years. pick your bullet and load it up and down in .2gr increments with about 3/4 powders from min to max load. I will guarantee you will find at least one load that will shoot quarter MOA or less with a three shot group. I don't shoot 5,10 plus groups because I will never have the opportunity to shoot that many times at animal in most hunting senarios. You'll always get a poster or two that has to justify his $1000/2000 barrel saying you need to...no you don't...you need to just shoot three and test. The first three are going to tell you if you have a good load or not. If you do you can always waste more ammo to satisfy not yourelf but other posters needs. My cheap bushmaster targeter varminter will put 5 shots all in one hole you can cover up with a dime at a 109 yards with 40 NBT that will measure high.3's I put a 2 lb trigger in it at the time. The biggest issue is the gun gets blamed most the time because the shooter is incapable of doing their part. Always get a kick out of the phrase...every one in a while you get a shooter...or you must have got a shooter...when someone shoots a light group with a production off the shelf rifle. I believe there are are a lot of duds out there but aLot more shoots in the wright hands. You could let 12 people shoot your gun and I bet there would be 12 different results with the same load.

I have been a range officer at one of the best outdoor ranges in MN for 17 yrs, I have seen hundreds of shooters/ rifle combinations fire at our 200 yd range. There has only been 1 shooter in memory that shot a sub half inch group at that range, he was a police sniper from the metro using a Savage model 10 Police Tactical in .308 with Nightforce 8-32x NXS scope. You are wasting your talents.

Don't not mean to brag but that's what I've been told. If you check one of posts a month or so ago I posted a .3" group from my LTR. I have quite a few rifles that will shoot that good with the right load combo. I normally shoot weekly at the range so I get a lot of practice.
