DPMS Sweet 16 upper

I am soon to build my first AR. I found the upper from that is used for the DPMS sweet 16. $450 on rguns.net. I have a line on Olympic Arms complete lowers, and will prolly use them for the lower.

Anyone used this UPPER, Pro, Cons, ect.

I want a quick, multiple shot calling rifle. I know the bull barrel maybe a little bit to pack around, but I am ok with that. Thanks for you opinions.

PS: Any similar uppers that maybe better, more economical, please let me know.

Is buying a complete upper of one brand and a complete lower of another brand, building an AR?

Both companies sell good quality uppers and lowers.

That's a good price on that upper. They list for $614. So that is a PRO. The con would be that it is a stainless steel bull barrel. Stainless would be more apt to reflect sunlight. You said already that your cool with the extra weight of the bull barrel.

I really like my sweet 16, don't really have any con's for you. Pro's, if you sight your rifle in right the bullet goes where your aiming at. Hope you like yours as well as I like mine.

Unless you did what Evil Luker did to his ^ and then that would be a PRO!

Well, I've never taken that tape off to see what it's doing to my barrel. I might regret that move if I ever do.

I bought it to shoot predators with, not to display, so I guess it's all good. Krylon might be a safer option, though.

I'm just sayin, reserve that PRO opinion until I see if I really screwed up.

I had a stainless .22LR barrel taped for a long time, and it took me a half hour with WD-40 and a scotchbrite pad to clean it up, and even then it wasn't 100% restored.

If you just want to knock down the shine of a stainless steel barrel, tape off the rest of the rifle and plug the barrel with a Q-Tip or piece of rolled up gauze and shoot it with some flat black bar-b-que grill heat resistant paint...

Mine was professionally coated by the factory, but it will have the same effect and doesn't hurt the value...

I've been happy with my Sweet 16. Only con is with the 16" barrel it really barks when you shoot. Hearing protection is a must with it.
