DPMS to release two new chamberings in their LR rifle.

I just talked to one of my buddies at DPMS. He told me they were going to offer their new LR rifle in .243 Winchester and .260 Remington. I hope they do well with them, the .243 and 7mm-08 always sold well for me.

I told him about the .358 Winchesters that I used to build on the AR-10 frame. Light-weight, 16" carbine, brutal energy in a small package.

Is there a specific reason for not chambering the 22/250 in the uppers?????

I can only speculate on some of it. I don't think the .22-250 would have a large following in an AR-10 platform. Also the body taper of the .22-250 is different than that of a .308 and may need magazine mods.

hoosierdaddy,
Like I said, I used to chamber the .260 on the AR-10. I didn't make a pile of them but enough to have blanks in stock. When I started working with the WSSM on the AR-15 I blew out just about everything related to the AR-10. All I have left is a couple of custom uppers that I made. One in 7mm-08 and one in a .243 Winchester. I'm sure there are people still making the .260 on the AR-10, I don't know about the AI version however. I don't know how well they would work in the magazine or extract.

I like anything in .260 Remington caliber.
A friend of mine has a custom built AR-10 in 260 caliber that is superbly accurate. He has steel targets on his ranch out to 1000 yards and plays with hits on the 10" x 12" steel on his 1000 yard berm. If the wind is blowing it is way easier to keep near (or on) target than a 308 rifle.

In the Jan 20 issue of ShotGun News DPMS has an two page add, part of which announces their new chamberings (with pics). It says they will be available in Feb 06.

In addition to the 243 and 260, they are also offering their new LR-204, which is a 24" SST fluted bull barrel flattop in 204 Ruger.

I've been thinking about getting one of the 24" flattop "varmint" type AR's in 223, but the 204 Ruger is awfully intriguing. Just curious…..how much do these 24” flattops weigh? I would be using mine primarily for coyote & bobcat hunting and am a little concerned about the weight.

I don't know what the DPMS version of the .204 flat-top will weight.....but it will be heavy. Even the fluted barrels from DPMS are heavy.

I have a 16" DPMS SS fluted bull barrel upper. With scope but with out magazine, it weighs 9 lbs 5 oz. A 24" in a smaller cal. but the same barrel contour will be quite a bit more.
