Dropped a Coy-Wolf, or did I?

Thats awsome..I have what we think a 65+ on my cousins place.. .farmer told us..his trapper caught a 70 lber a few years back.. .and I've seen this 6olber myself and I got it on trail Cam.. .Rusty

I agree Lungbuster, it does look like a 30 lb coyote. Want to make a 30 lb coyote look like a 50 lb coyote? Set the coyote close to the camera, then set a rifle up on a bipod a foot behind the coyote, and finally kneel down a foot behind the rifle....voila a monster.

Boy, sure some imaginative and skeptical folks here. Oh well, since I was there I'll be holding my own counsel as to the size of this dog.

Watch the documentary on Netflix about Coy-wolves. There are more than you would think but they are more North east coast. You can always take a blood sample into fish and game and they can do tests to see if it is. Nice dog though. Congrats.

The guy that made that film is from Mass. he has a hidden agenda, by naming the Eastern Coyote, a Coy Wolf, he is trying to set the public up psychologically, the wolf is on the endangered list in some states, and that is his goal for the Eastern Coyote.

I read a book by a biologist about the Eastern Coyote and they tend to have red and or some grey wolf DNA..
I will try and find a link to the book...

Orkon

I took these two coyotes in 2010,we have to tag our coyotes, in those days you had to go to the deer check in station,on their scale, the Red one weighed in at 57 lbs. and the Grey one was 49 lbs...Maybe my eyes are gone but your coyote looks bigger than the Red one...maybe 20 %???

Nice big coyotes there! Yeah, that red one sure looks about the size of this one. I've shot several coyotes around 50lbs, but I've never shot one around 60lbs before. Didn't know coyotes got that big without some extra bloodline somewhere. This thread has been educational.

I was looking using your rifle as scale, the head of that coyote of yours,is enormous, also look at the feet pads and legs, that thing is maybe half pig!!LOL!!!

Just got the new predator xtreme mag in the mail yesterday. There is an article in there about wolf hybrids if anyone is interested in checking it out. They have a pic on the cover of a supposed coyote wolf cross, it sure does appear to have features from both species.

Here is a cousin to a coyote for comparison, that I put on a scale,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Dang Troy that is one big coyote~!

I just love the pictures of the animal and the guy several feet behind it.

Like the fisherman holding the fish straight armed away from them to look bigger.

It would have been nice to have the rifle laid in front of the coyote for size comparison. Big son of a gun either way.

A cousin, wolf right?

Look closely here folks. I'm not sitting back behind that coyote trying to use camera tricks. My rifle is right next to that coyote, (was touching fur) and I'm immediately behind it... with my down knee pretty near under the rifle. I enjoy a good skeptic as much as the next guy, but lets be reasonable here. Then too, I lifted the beast. Last night just out of curiosity, I held my 43lb daughter out at arms length just to see what it felt like... and I could do it fairly simply. I could not extend my arms while holding that coyote in place. Was it 60lbs+? I don't know. Felt like it. No way on Gods green earth was it lighter than 40lbs.

Sorry if I sounded crass. I was just explaining the situation for all.

I believe the "two dot" is unique to coyotes, as is the shoulder "ruff", the guard hairs that band across the shoulders. If one or the other are gone, you may have a coy-dog or coy-wolf, if both are there, it would almost certainly be a pure coyote. A pure, dang BIG, handsome coyote. I'm less than a couple hundred miles away and I have never laid eyes on a dog like that!
