Drying Wet Raccoon

After skinning and fleshing a soaking wet raccoon do you do anything different when stretching than with a dry animal? Any spoilage issues when the fur is wet?

I would dry it first. I hang mine up and allow them to dry for a while. I don't always let them dry fully but at least don't leave it soaked. As far as spoilage, yes it can happen and especially with wooden stretchers. Wire allows a little more air. Mold/mildew and the like are most common. Plus they take forever to dry like that. Hang it up for a few hours. Take care

do you have snow?? if you do you can roll it around in the snow for about 10 minutes or so and it will be completly dry. but yes your should dry it before skinning. also try hanging it in front of a box fan overnight.
hope this helped

I just wash the fur off good, flesh and put on a wood stretcher. Dry in a week. Comb the fur out in the window and don't have a problem.
