The OXPHO is good stuff. Van's is also another good blueing product from what I'm told. I'm just kicking around the idea of a DIY product for the Mauser that I'm re-barreling. The new barrel is in the white.
Lauer Custom Weaponry has a good reputation, and looks like it give the gloss blued look for those that need that look, with much better durability than bluing, and much cheaper than bluing. I'd give it a try.
I went with OXPHO. It turned out pretty good. Good enough for the old Mouser anyway. I had one spot that refused to take blueing. Its about the size of the point of a pencil but of course it is right on top of the barrel. I blued it three times trying to get it to color but it just won't. I clean the barrel per instructions between each coat but no luck. It looks pretty good and I'm OK with it. Thanks!
Most firearms makers use Black Oxide for a the black finish on their guns.
Where I live we have companies that do a great job Black Oxided steel parts, Ohio.
Three coats gave me a nice dark blue/black finish very similar to the color of the action. Close enough that you really can't tell a difference. I fixed the spot on the barrel to. It may have been a small piece of aluminum off the barrel vice. IDK but I light sanded it with a worn piece of 400 grit paper then cleaned it really well and applied three more coats of OXPHO. Now the barrel looks good.
