Early season whitetail tactics

well the bow opener opens up this saturday and i was wondering what are my best tactics for shooting or luring a buck in durin the heat of the early season. What calls to use or not use and scents and such. thanks
 
I have found that my best luck has been sitting a water hole for the day. I usually arrive around 7 or 8 at the latest and stay until 5-5:30 unless I have deer coming in at that time. I only move when I don 't have a deer in sight. I have found though most deer come in between 9am-1 pm on my stands. But I had one big buck come in at 7:30 last year. You just never know. I spray earth scented scent eliminator on me. I think it helps. I hope this helps.
 
With most early season Whitetails FOOD is the key, scout some good alphalfa fields and set up down wind side of the trail they are using to enter (for evening stand) and downwind side of trail they use to leave (for morning stand)
 
I agree with Howler, When I go back to the farm in KS., that is just what I do. I ask my dad and brother where they have been seeing the deer feeding, then I set up accordingly. If it is HOT, and water is scarce, a water hole set could be the ticket, and something to seriously concider.
I don't do much calling at all until mid to late Oct., and then I will use some lite rattlin' and some doe calls, with a can!
I don't use any attractant scents. I usually hunt funnels, or well used trails that lead to and from food source!
