Well good luck since shotgun only with shot smaller than BB or 17HMR or 22LR. NO lites although you can hunt till midnight. I have called a few times at nite and had what I believed was a fox and coyotes but I was not 100% comfortable in the ID so I held off. Also I am afraid ofeven bringing a flash lite to track if needed in case a warden splits hairs so I refrain from nite calling unless there is a full moon, clear skies and snow. WIshing for alot, I know and we might see gas for 1.75 a gallon first.
I believe the coyotes are doing a job on the deer in Eastern MA especially the fawns since my fawn sightings are way down the last few years. I am skeptical about skeletons being kills this time of the year since deer have been pursued since mid October and alot of deer are lost to poor shots and or unknown hits. I do know they take down adult deer in Bristol and Plymouth Counties as I have seen many far from roads and long after seasons close.
As for tips alot more people are trying than you would think and meerly educating yotes with distress calls. I have had most of my luck with vocals and canine. Dont even try for fox as it seems after November they go underground wich I believe is a result of the yotes picking off the young and stupid and the adults / smarter foxes stay in the thick stuff yotes can not penetrate. At least down here in Bristol County.
Good luck to ya and if you are in one of the unfortunate counties like Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable etc go look for a used TC Contender pre 1998 and registered in Ma pre 98 also and you can use a handgun or pistol of any caliber during the day. I have one in 223 and I am still getting aquainted with it but i finally took it out for a quick hunt this am. The yotes moved on since early December so no takers. Seems like it was a bedding area and now the track seems more transitional.
