Any of you guys ever venture north of Spokane up into Stevens county?

Weaz

I have but the Stevens Co. coyotes seem to be unshootable. I've never called one in. Have a few spots that I hunt Turkeys thats loaded but those dogs wont come for me. It's so thick though that I may just not be seeing them. Lots of Bobcats up there too but havent called one of them either. Went back in Oct and gave it a go but as usual no luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I knock a few over around Fruitland, but property is hard to get on, with permission. Lucky for me I have good access to a large area there. Also between Ft. spokane and Davenport is some real good area.
Carl

Hey Gary, How ya been, I intend to get over there soon as I can.
Carl

I'm still here Carl, got some snow right now but hopefully in a few days or so most will be gone. Wife just called, said it's raining in Pullman right now. Probably will rain here soon, getting warm about 40 out there now, snow is melting pretty quick.

Call when ya want to make the trip, but I did go in for a job interview yesterday, I don't know the outcome yet but I could possibly be working a real job within a week or two if they call me back. Thought I was retired /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif but the pay sucks so I need to get busy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Heading back out to work up some loads for the 25-06 right now, so got to run.

MH WASH.....Give me a call on my cell if you are still readin' this post.

Mark, If your wanting to hunt in the snow you had better get down here fast. It's been 39 degrees all night.

Gary, if you prosise not to rub it in, I'll call you later this morning.

I am new to this forum and am glad to see some eastern washington people here!! I am just getting into coyote hunting. I am planning on going out sunday. I was thinking maybe around Juniper but I am not sure yet.
Thanks
Mike

Dang!!

I guess I am gonna have to venture out a ways then. I am kinda glad to hear you say that though Hammer of Thor, cause I have been starting to think that I am doing something wrong. I call them in here and there, but nothing like I want to. If I have someone inexperienced with me then forget it. When they do come in they are paying real close attention to everything.

Any tips anyone can give me would be great!!

Bofire, I have a place I go to above Gifford. Lots of animals, but lots of trespassers too.

Ras53, if you look in the WAC, once you leave the state you are only allowed to come back and visit relatives and you can't shoot small game, i.e., coyotes. sorry pal. LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I almost feel sorry for you unemployed folks.

Were should we go for coffee? I had to do noting today but shovel my drive way. The weather too bad for hunting today, mabey tommarrow. BOO HOO. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've hunted the Escure place a couple of times in the spring. The place is huge and the few times I've been there never saw another person. Somewhere out there I have a set of shooting sticks.

Better get back to work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I hadn't even really looked at the site for a few days,
much less had time for coffee.

If you walk, and spend some time you should find dogs on public land in WA.

Bofire,

I used to turkey hunt on Kennedy and Hudsputh (sp?) property. Unfortuneatly it was leased.

Has that situation changed?

I would love to go back.

Hammer,
Yes, the Escure place is south of Sprauge, and worth checkng out. More than a few guys will cuss me for giving directions.

I hunt N/E wa for turkeys and deer, but havn't pred hunted those spots much. My uncle has a place by Valley where I deer hunt. Coyotes killed one of his dogs, and he's asking me to come hunt.

need more time.

That Escure Ranch that the BLM bought up is so huge you won't even see half of it hunting all day. I used to fish out there at a little lake and if you got in the wrong canyon you could drive for miles and miss it completely. so there has to be a ton of dogs out there. Good combo of scabrock, water holes, grasses, sage, etc. and the feed should be decent. Getting to it might be the hardest part. Might want to google earth the area first and get an overhead picture first to study.

I need to sight in a couple of rifles, got new scopes on them right before I moved over here. After I get that done I will be ready to go. I live in Medical Lake.

Man, you guys are rough on ex-washingtonians!/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Can't I even come back and hunt turkeys in the spring? It's tough getting turkey permits in Utah, and costs residents as much as Washington charges non-residents /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif waaaaa!!!

I probably won't have the time anyway. We're moving my parents out of the old family home in Kennewick to a senior resident's center on the west side.

I did shoot a couple coyotes in WA once in the 1960s. One while duck hunting near Othello, and one while deer hunting down in Asotin Co.

You guys have a good time!

Hey Mike,

I'm in Pasco. Have you ever been out to Juniper? I have not yet and I'm still pretty new at this coyote game. I have a co-worker I hunt with on occasion that is pretty good at it. Let me know how Juniper goes if you make it out there.

I wish the snow would have stuck around longer. Another place to try would be on the South side of Rattlesnake or back behind the Rattlesnake firearms range. Last Monday I was hunting quail and cut at least three different coyote tracks.

Boy this thread was so long it took me several minutes to get thru it all. It's great to hear all the fellow E.W. yapping it up. I used to drive into Spokane and buy my guns and reloading stuff at the White Elephant, still do sometimes. All the places everyone mentioned especially the Central,Tri-cities and Palouse country was and still seems to be good yote hunting. I have a place in Wenatchee and also above Colville, grew up in Palouse,Colville area and have hunted them and Wen area for 40+ yrs, Have lots of fun hunting in both types of terrain, the yotes in the NE really have some nice fur this year but have seen some mange in central wa, Earlier in the thread there was a mention of hunting bobs I happened to get lucky earlier last month. For those interested here's a link.

Yep, We weren't having much luck finding any whitetails that were worth flinging a arrow at and just got 2 in of new snow when we spotted the bob's tracks down in a creek bed, we went back and grabbed a homemade e-caller we had just happened to throw in our stuff as a afterthought and hustled back, set up it and got about 35 yrds crosswind from it and let go with a distressed bird. Took about 10 min for it to come in and another 20 to move in the last 30 yrds into a shooting corridor. It just sat and watched the speaker. Took the shot at 24 yrds. Barely connected as it almost jumped the string. I really think it was watching me when I drew back.
