Easy picking lately?

I don’t want to say it’s been easy, but definitely different past few weeks. My buddy and I have gotten 5 in the last 3 weeks going one night on the weekend. This is a huge increase in success recently. The odd thing is how it’s happening. All 5 we have taken we have done so hardly using the call. We roll up to the field and bam, there’s one or a pair out just frolicking in the field. Friday night we went to a farmers property and as soon as we got out all the cows were going off. Seemed very strange for 1230 am to have a few dozen head just going crazy. I thought maybe there is one out there tormenting them since there were calves. We scanned around and didn’t see any so we walked down the dirt road and set up to hunt the other side. The cows continued for 5 or 6 minutes so we check again and sure enough, my buddy goes “ hey what’s that to the right of that far left group of cows?” I look through the scanner and there it was weaving in and out of cows with its little rat like tail. I said yep that’s one. It was about 330 yards. I told him you shoot I will be backup. He missed and proceeded to mag dump his 223. He runs out and it stops and sits down. It had no idea what happened since we never turned the call on. I line it up and drop him in his tracks. It was cool the way it played out, but a unique stand for us. I won’t complain if I don’t have to turn the call on again for a month lol. Pretty neat lately with all the activity.

I left PA in 92, at that time coyotes were a rare sight. There were a few reports coming from the Marsh Creek State Park near Eagle, but it wasn't much. A few years later I visited and was talking to an old high school friend and he was telling me about how many coyotes he was killing. I don't know what caused the population to explode like that, but it sure sounds like it's fun to hunt coyotes in PA these days.
