Economical Bolt Action With Box Magazine?

So I've been looking real hard at the Stevens 200 as my next rifle and accuracy wise is will do what I want but the only thing that's holding me up is the blind magazine. I'm guessing that the only way to get an empty chamber once I'm done hunting is to cycle all of the cartridges thru? If that's the case, what's the next step up to get a detachable magazine that still provides great accuracy and a good value?
My requirements for a rifle are
#1 Accuracy
#2 Price
 
I believe my local store has one in .204 if that sounds right. I initially didn't want to spend more than $350 but I may have to look at that. I think it was around $479 if it's the same gun. Bull barrel
 
I found 1 review on the edge for accuracy. Less than an inch in the .243 so sounds like it is a gun that will need to be looked at closer. I'll call the local (20 miles) gun store and see if they have one in stock. At least the edge has a decent selection of calibers available.
 
My local store didn't even know the Edge was out. I gave them the sku number off of Savage's site for the 22-250 and they said $279 for the rifle, $309 for the combo although their ordering system is showing none in stock.

If you MUST have a DBM then that's fine, to each his own. I bought the Savage 10 Pred. awhile back and it is blind mag., to empty the mag, just hold the rifle pointing nearly straight up and use the bolt, you don't have to go full cycle.
All my other rifles are Floorplate type, which I'd rather have (never been a DBM fan myself).
It's really not that bad to manually empty it, but I know what ya mean, when you want a particular feature, that is what you want.

They're slow to make it out to the shops and at that price are gonna be fast off the shelves. They are just now starting to ship them and we have received 3 or 4 total, in 223 and 243, all black stocks. I haven't seen the camo ones yet, or other calibers.
 
Just bought a Savage Edge 22-250 for my boy to hunt coyotes with me when he comes to stay with me in a couple of weeks. I like the detachable mag and the bolt seems to close smoothly - less play than most factory savages, but that 6lb trigger is a heavy one and the Edge's design will not take a Timney or Rifle Basix drop in designed for savages 110 action.
It's a very basic trigger set and so I cut about 2 coils off of the spring and now it has settled into between 3 to 3-1/2 pull weight.

Other than that - the trigger is crisp and the rifle seems solid for an entry level coyote rig.

i have been looking real hard at one of the 250s since the start of the thread, can u post of a pic of the gun with the DM in would love to see it.
 
I tell ya what...I had a buddy that got a rifle for his 6 year old son for deer hunting last year and I was very surprised at it's accuracy. Mossberg, youth, bolt action 243...I think it has a 20" barrel (usually too short for me, but still impressive). I'm thinkin it was around 300 bucks. I know its not one of those you hear of much, but it impressed me and I'm kinda one of those gun nuts that is hard to please when it comes to rifles and accuracy.

I went to sportsmans warehouse yesterday to buy the savage edge. I was very disappointed, the action was stiff and the trigger pull was the hardest I have ever tried. I looked at the stevens and it was a much better, smoother bolt action and the trigger was far better than the edge's. that being the case I can live without the box magazine and came home with the stevens 200 in the 22-250 caliber. Its probably too late to mention it but a T/C Venture has a detachable box, a smooth bolt, good trigger and a MOA guarantee, and runs about $120 more than the savage in these parts. I paid $419.00 for mine at Whittaker Guns.
 
Interesting reply's on the edge. I guess they're just so new and too few out there to get a broader sampling just yet. I have nothing against the Steven's other than the lack of a removeable magazine and the color of the stock. Accuracy is my #1 priority and I bet either the Edge or 200 will be satifactory.
 
Academy Sports had some savage dbm models (not edge- fcns accutrigger, non-accustock if I remember right) on clearance a week or so back for $359. Don't remember what calibers they had them in though.
