Electronic Callers - Where Do You Place Them

I would like to know where you place your electronic callers when hunting predators. Is there any advantage to putting them in something above the ground like a tree or bush? Could this keep the predator's attention focused up instead on on the ground where you are?
 
i usually put mine in the woods where i am hunting. if not hunting i put it in the back seat of my truck.lol. just messing with ya.
 
getting it off the ground helps with the sound carrying farther as the ground tends to absorb some of the sound. I also like to place the caller upwind of my position anywhere from 20-75 yards depending on the situation. I try to sit in a position that allows me to see an incoming predator before he gets my wind. Give a coyote a natural avenue to travel ie:fence row, ditch, woodline to try to get downwind of your caller position. The key is to shoot him before he winds you or the caller.
 
I ll ussally put my caller downwind 50plus yards or so.....work with the cross winds....and yes I ll put it in a tree.....widged it so it does nt fall.

I like setting up on a cross wind when using the ecaller. If the wind is blowing from 9 o'clock, I'll set the caller about 11 o'clock about 30-40 yards, depending on wind speed, and try to place a coyote that wants downwind of the ecaller to right in front of me and my clients. I always elevate the ecaller, as KAF said, for better sound carrying and remote response.

ok maybe I'm messed up but I have better luck with the call upwind/crosswind, so when the circle downwind they are in front of me ? now I hunt at night and they seem to use their nose more at night and that maybe the difference?

300 yards down wind has to be a joke?

I tried setting my call on the next section line once.. Didn't see a thing all day!

I set almost identical to Tony's recommendation. It kills me how many people try to use an E-Caller like a hand call. If you use it this way as far as set up, you have just killed a major reason for using an eCaller. I almost always call into the crosswind.

I typically get it out a bit farther than Tony probably from 50 to 150 yards. I find some coyotes will run bigger circles so you need it a ways out at times. The key a few other people have said is allow the coyote to follow the path of least resitance. The path they would most likely want to travel even if a call wasn't being heard. Don't force them to do something they naturally wouldn't do.
 
when im setting up

I drive into the wind when possible
I walk into the wind set call 25yds in front (shotgun only)
I setup with the wind in my face and the call facing into the wind

see the pattern If the wind is in your face its harder for them to hear you coming for some reason about 80% of them come straight in only a few have come in from behind us
 
For what it's worth, there's a well known internet sensation that recommends holding the ecaller above your head and pivoting it in all directions. He says that there's not a coyote that he can't call and he don't miss any either. Brings them in from miles.

It does make sense and I've done it NUMEROUS times. I've even dropped a caller off (the machine, not a human

) then drove way on down a trail or 2 track road, parked and walked back towards the caller and operated it from LONG distance.

Had it work out enough times that I continue to do it when the conditions are right.
 
I also put it 30 to 40 yards in front of me or to the side since I hunt orchards a lot.I have also found getting it off the ground helps a lot like on a stump or even a little tree.I wonder what the coyote is thinking when he is coming into a sound of jack rabbit distress from a tree lol.

i have two Fury's and when i hunt alone, it VERY common for me to set up the caller and go downwind-crosswind 300 yards.
when my fav. coyote partner (DiYi) hunt together,we sometimes split up and the one not calling may go downwind 3-4-500 yards. we hunt WIDE OPEN hilly areas and it works for us.

i've had my Fury's respond from over 600 yards away as long as its a GOOD line of site.

LOL songdog... the ol"bucket- head".
 
I tested my Fury when I first got it and it worked out to 500 + yards IIRC.
I found this picture from that test. The Fury was 3 power poles behind the vehicle and of course over that rise so about 600 yards.


I normally only get the caller about 30-100 yards though mainly using a crosswind as others mentioned.
