ELK hunting around Stonewall Co

I need some direction on my first elk hunt. A friend and I are headed to Stonewall CO. It will be 2nd season rifle on public land. We will have another friend pack us up and get it us to a camp loaction. Now that the easy part can anyone tell me about the area and if its any good for elk. Also what to expect in the second season. Any information will help. thanks.
 
I have seen alot of elk up above the bear lake campground just while fishing. Never hunted there though Its not too far of a drive for me, I would like to. One morning I stopped counting at 120 elk up above treeline at daybreak. Hope you do well, wish I were going!
 
Aint worth a squat unless you can find a ranch that lets you on their land. The public land in that area is rough, straight up or down, the forests are a mess of tree tangles and oak brush.

Unit 85 in my opinion has easily been the worst unit ive ever hunted in and i live in that unit!
 
i hope the fried that is taken us up there is a good as he says he is. we may also be hunting unit 851. Like I said it my first elk hunt and its on a tight budget. May be next year I can afford more. This elk hunt is no where as easy has hog hunting.
