What is your goal? Are you looking at a wilderness hunt? Or just great opportunity? There are many outfitters who do not need to use horses and typically they can be cheaper. A truck is cheap than a horse... I have a few in mind. for a first time elk hunt that is affordable with a great guy, I have a rec for you, but realize it will be a migration route hunt in the lower sage brush country mainly with trucks being used to get into position and a short stalk. If you are looking for big mountains pine trees climbing up and down I also have a great person. they are both locals I have worked with and know for a fact they will do everything they can to get your elk. Let me know which you prefer and I will get you info.
There is a trade off to hunting CO. Easy to get tags and lots of animals, but you will not see tons of huge bulls. There always is a good chance to find one near 300, but the majority are all smaller 5 points... Again lots of opportunity
