Need help from ya'll. I am looking to put a 204 or 223 barrel on my Encore pistol to shoot coyotes and/or P'dogs. I found a cheap $150 204 barrel, but I already reload for 223. The question is the recoil on the 204 that much less than 223? Need your advice quickly before barrel sells. Thanks Mac

I dont have a .204 for my contender. I have a .223 14" Bull Barrel. But all things being equal I'd think that the .204 would have less felt recoil. Its less in a rifle, so probably the same in a Pistol?

My contender in .223 was very loud and had an extreme muzzle flash, recoil wasnt bad. Accuracy was good with factory loads too. I would get the .223 since you have the loading equip and more bullets and loads to choose from.

Encoreman,

Amen on the encore for coyotes. I bought me a .22-250 for mine over Christmas. I've got it sighted in. Cant wait to try it out on the coyotes. Blast isnt too bad compared to the .30/06 I have had on there for a while.

encoreman, I had a custom 204 pistol barrel from tc, it would not shoot 40gr bullets to my liking. I have used my 223 pistol with 50gr hornady (2245)bullets, and have had good results on coyotes. spike

Yep, don't forget you'll be losing a lot of speed and be down around 22 mag speeds. You're going to want a bullet that is heavy and upsets at slower speeds, something liek ballistic tips. I think they open up down to 1600 fps, while many only open up down to 1800 fps to 1900 fps. If you get out to 200 yards they at like FMJ, which isn't a good thing.

That only leaves one choice in my mind.

.22 mag speeds? Are you serious? You will be nowhere near .22 mag speeds. Shorter barrel doesn't decrease the speed much at all. Your bullets will perform fine!
