Thinking about the 512 on a AR for a calling gun. Any body use this as their only sight? What about trying to shoot into the sun early morning ?? Accurate to what distances??? Any hints or recommendations apprecated.. Thanks, Bill

I use a EoTech 512 on my AR, and I think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can peg an egg at 100 yards no problem. Anything over that is a bit of a stretch. I plan on solving that problem by getting a 3x magnifier.

Do you know of anyone who has a magnifier on one? I have thought about getting an EoTech 512, but wondered about shooting long distances.

I've used mine out to 280 yds on an 8" steel plate. If you sight in at 200 yds and can bring the coyotes in to around 200 yds the holo sight will work fine.

It's a nice, fast sight and I love mine. But, I've gone back to a scope with a mil reticle for 2 reasons: target ID at longer ranges and easier hold overs.

Yeah, that's why I have been planning on a good long range scope. If I had multiple ARs so I could use one just for under 150 yards or so I might have one AR with an EoTech.

I use a 512 with a 3x magnifier and it works just fine...that being said, it usually stays in they safe because of the wieght...my loopy 2-7 and 2.5-8 get most of the hunting...lighter wieght and 300 yds is not an issue.

I had one on my Tavor for quite some time, but I found the reticle wasn't bright enough for sunny days or lots of snow. I found it washed out in some conditions and I was hunting to find the reticle. Now it lives on my home defense shotgun, where I figure low light is more likely.

I keep one on one of my ARs, but also keep a 3-12 Sightron mounted on a LaRue mount handy...I can change them over in about 30 seconds if needed

This is not the same rifle but the same optic/mount..

I tried a 512 for awhile and sold it. Then tried a Vortex SPARC and sold it. For the up close action I prefer a 12 guage and for the farther stuff I found I wanted magnification. Just got a Vortex 2x7x32. Hope that's the ticket I've been looking for.

The trick to using most red/green dot non-magnified optics, such as the EO-Tech, is to train yourself to shoot with both eyes open...Focus on the target hit space with both eyes and bring the firearm/optic into line with your vision...

Once you get used to shooting that way, it's one of the fastest short to mid range sighting systems going...

With a little practice, at one time, I could draw. or place, button sized bulls eyes on a man sized silhouette target and hit each of them in a very short time..Same was true for moving targets moving at six feet per second across my line of sight...

Thought there would be more love for the Eotech but I guessed wrong.. I need something for up close soooo what about mounting the Eotech offset to the side??? Any info on that? My RRA one piece mount takes up all the room on the top of receiver so I would have to have the Eotech mounted quite a ways forward. I have plenty of room just wondering about clearence of the scope bell and it looks like the Eotech is gonna be out a ways. Any suggestons where to get the mount I would need. Thanks, Bill

Yankee Hill Machine produces some 45* angle mounts in different lengths and seem to be pretty high quality... I really doubt that you will like an EO-Tech mounted that way,,,they are pretty heavy and bulky when compared to some of the other Holographic sights available...

There are quite a few hunters and competition shooters that mount a second red dot on a 45* angle so that just rolling the rifle over a little gives them a rapid target acquisition for close targets...

I have an Eotech, but it sits in the safe. My kids use it but I don't. Their eyes are better than mine. I even have the flip to side 3.25x magnifier.

I prefer the scope/red dot combo on a RAMP. This covers everything (close/far) and the RAMP puts the red dot (I use the Burris FastFire) exactly where it should be (rather than on top of the scope, thus requiring a break in cheek weld).

Read/view more here.

There's a RAMP in the classifieds for $125 right now and that's a great deal (oops it's gone just a few hours later). You could sell your RRA to lower the transition cost. I don't know that guy at all by the way.

Or if you are married to your RRA mount you could add a Warne 45 degree pic mount. This also puts the red dot in perfect alignment for a solid, consistent cheek weld like the RAMP. This is far better than the Yankee Hill Machine 45 degree dovetail based on my testing.
