eotech and scope on ar-15?

guys could be a terribly stupid question and if it is i will appoligize before hand. can you mount a regular scope and eotech on your ar-15? thanks

If you had a very long Picatinny rail and the right height rings to align the scope up with the EOTech screen you probably could but WHY? The reticles would not line up right. There is a commercially available 3X multiplier which swings in/out of view. If your goal was magnification.

I have heard(in other words I have heard from undocumented sources of reputtable credibility)Some special forces have put a dot style sight(e.g.,eotech) on the righthand(assuming they are right handed) rail with an ACOG 3X on top. When they do close quarters entry work they hold the gun sideways and use the dot sight. The 223 has such a lowly amount of recoil it can be shot from an unlimited number of positions including sideways off sholder. I've thought about setting a gun up like this. This is my own thinking: a sight mounted to a rail isn't going to be very accurate, but at 35 yards who cares.

hmmm that is kinda cool. was thinking about the eotech for close range running dogs

notice the peep hole in the base of the rings for open sights

My eotech is set up for co-witness I can flip the rear sight up and sight through the eotech on or off and still use just the open sights

my rear sight also has a sight notch that can be used with a regular scope and see thru rings, so technically speaking you could have all three if you have the right flip up rear sight

I will validate what you have heard

My brother is a member of 19th SF his personal rifle here at home is setup just like what to mimic his duty rifle

A guy I know shoots compitition and has a scope on his AR for longer range and a eotech mounted on the side for close in moving shots, all he does is tip the rifle on its side and shoots. he does very well with it and I would think it would work fine on yotes.

I just use a low powered variable. In my case a 1.5x5 Leupold illuminated scope in a Larue mount. I believe the low powered scope offers more flexibility in a compact package

I have used Eotechs quite a bit on issued rifles and have a personally owned one currently sitting in my safe since I prefer the Leupold.

That being said, experimentation is a great thing.

Try it and see what you like and don't like about it. Please report back your findings. Good luck.

My EOTech takes up most of the rail, there's just enough room behind it for a flip-up sight, and that's with the front of the EOTech hanging over the float tube about an inch. Like Curt said, you would be better off with a small dot mounted to a modified ring on the scope. The EOTech is pretty large to hang off the side.

I have my Ar set up with a 3x9 scope and a red dot on the side, and love it. I can reach way out with it, but its still fast enough to hit clay pigions. its just a cheap red dot on it now, and i will eventualy replace it with a aimpoint micro.
I did it using the tri-rail flattop riser then mounter a 45 degree mount on the right side rail. It put the red dot almost perfectly to the right of the scope. both mounts where purchased from cheaperthandirt.com
The only down side to this setup is finding a gun case that will fit it. But I love it!

I'd probably go with one of the smaller reflex red dot sights on top of your scope like a Docter or someting similar. EoTech is a little big for a second sight.

Good hunting

Curt, which EOTech sight are you referring to?
I have two EOTech sights, a 512 and a 552. Th 512 is smaller then the 552, and might work in this set up, using two sights.
The 552 is pretty imposing, and is probably better suited for a single set up on a main battle rifle.
I have my 512 mounted on a Ruger 10-22 and it is fine in this configuration.

Don, I just have a 512. Really like it. I bet it's fun on a 10-22.

Good hunting

Yes, the 512 is perfect on my 10-22. The rifle is outfitted with a Black Hogue stock, factory sporter barrel, and is a blued rifle. With the 512 on top, I call it my Grayling Cat Killer.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

The 552 is just too big, and has been sitting in the safe for a couple of years.
