Eotech Recall/Refund

This one has gone quietly under the radar. I was reading on a closed law enforcement forum about Eotech Holographic Weapon Sights and their issues with point of impact shifting when subjected to significant temperature changes (like going from a warm police car to -5 outside). Anyway, the bottom line is that they are buying their Holo Sights back at full retail plus $15 for shipping. I just returned my 2007 model 553 for a full price refund. You must go to their website and enter make model, serial and manufacture date. They will then respond back with a return authorization number. If you search the internet you can read detailed reports about the performance issues and that they recently reached a 25 million settlement with the feds. I loved that sight but not enough to risk the issues of using a known potentially defective device in a lethal encounter (and I don't mean coyotes).

Here is a link to one attorneys info page that describes the specific issues.....

Something to think about!

this is total bs, I've used and abused Eotech's for right at 10 years now with no issues and I've used a lot of them. Our government decided to get a little money back on their investment.
There is no such thing a the "perfect" optic that is not affected in some slight way by the things mentioned in the article. Notice that it is a on an attorneys info page, one soliciting business at that. SCUM!
As stated I own many of them and I intend to keep them all. Our gov. has tried to take our guns, limited our ammo buying, and now they are going after companies that make optics. Remember recently when the same Gov. was trying to get holographic sights outlawed? If I remember correctly they said it was because they made target acquisition quicker. They need to make up their minds. Are they a poor quality product promoted by "false" advertising or are they incredibly fast and accurate? My vote is for the latter.
just my .02

Eotech needed to offer the refund. Think about it, not many of us shoot in the extreme temperature of 140F BUT police officers trunks do get up to that kind of temperature and if they took and missed a shot as a result of a zero shift and Eotech knew about it then they would be in a load of trouble.

Sounds like one person in this thread is sponsored by Eotech. Guess who?
Do we want our LEO's and military protecting us and their own lives with a sight that drifts POI that much on temp?
I don't. Doubt they do either.

I leave my equipment in the truck 24-7, it gets bounced, dropped, rained on, not to mention Texas heat.
Sponsorship or not if the equipment didn't work efficiently I wouldn't be using it. I'm in it to kill hogs and coyotes, if I'm not killin' I'm losing money. I also use leupold's they don't pay me a dime, not even a free scope in the last 25 years.
Bottom line for me is the fact that any optic can and will at some point be affected by all the a fore mentioned scenarios. If they don't hold up to my way of hunting they are gone. The only issue I've had with Holosights is the fact that people forget to turn them down in low light. Other than that, they suit my purpose perfectly. when You have a pissed off hog coming straight at you, aim best be true.
seriously how many here have had issues with Eotech's?

I bought mine in 2007 and have had great success with it. I truthfully really loved that sight and all of its features. If it was just for hunting or home use I would be perfectly happy and never look back. That being said I have a professional obligation at work to be as certain as humanly possible that my gear is at 100%. Documented tests of 4moa drift simply due to wide temperature fluctuations is unacceptable. Even if my sight appears to be unaffected, I can't afford to risk it. I shipped it back!

P.S. I also find it VERY telling that they are not even trying to pro-rate the refunds (mine was 10yrs old). They are just buying back all of these units and paying CURRENT full retail pricing!

don't get me wrong I'm not defending the fact that some may fail at some point. That is going to be true with mechanical sight no matter the brand. The fact that they are willing to make the refunds impressed me even more.
I deal with John Bailey at Eotech he's the only one left that I know. He is top of the line in my book. Many of the guys here have met him.
All that being said for my purpose I will continue using the Eotech's. If your in law enforcement or military and doubt any product, then by all means don't use it and take advantage of the refund.

Is the company working on correcting the problem in the scopes? It would be ashamed to not make it work as intended or needed, or to discontinue the product. Surely there will be a fix for it.

Got my check today, they kept in good email contact throughout the process and payment was sent when they said it would be. Time to go shopping!

I took my EOTech EXPS 3-4 and my G-33 Magnifier to the range yesterday and started out by putting the EOTech on the rail of my Ambush Firearms AR15 5.56 rifle along with the G-33. These devices had been stored in my house in the carrying case since last November 2015.

My first shot at the 17" diameter Shoot N C target was high and to the right a bit. About 4" above the bulls eye. I dialed the POI down a few MOA and got it to go about 2" above the bulls eye on this target. I only shot about 6 to 8 times and all shots were on the target and I was happy. I could have hit a human or larger target at 200 yards even after zeroing the device on my rifle and then taking it off for storage before putting it back on the rifle again. The EOTech manual claims that you might lose about 2 MOA if you take the gun off the rail and put it back on again. So that was about right.

A year ago I was able to take the sight off the rail and then put it back on and the zero remained perfect that time.

There are a couple of problems that have been fixed now by EOTech and I may send my unit into them to have that checked out and fixed if I have any problems with the Red dots not showing up right in the viewer.
