According to the NY DEC website frequently asked questions

(near end of last page)
Q: Is it legal to use decoys and electronic calls to hunt deer?
A: Both decoys and electronic calls are legal to use for deer hunting in NY. You should exercise caution when transporting a deer decoy to and from the locations in the field. Some hunters wrap a strip of blaze orange material around the decoy when carrying it.
You are allowed to use electronic calls as well as decoys for deer.
This seemed odd to me - so I called DEC and spoke with an officer who stated that if I got caught hunting with an electronic call for deer that I would be ticketed at the very least.
I have faxed DEC for Confirmation of what is the real truth and will post their reply when received.
Even [beeep] the website is supposed to be the most current info and where I was told to go to see any updated changes - it can get you into trouble. It would most likely be thrown out of court but who needs the hastle.
Just wanted to make my fellow NY'ers aware of how they tell ya one thing then do another which will cause you nothing but grief.
Of course there is always a chance that the officer I spoke to was unaware of the change but I most likely think it is wrong info on their website at the bottom under "frequently asked questions".

************************************** UPDATE 11/1/10 *************************************
The officer called me back (he's been there 10 years) and said after some checking they determined it was legal to use electronic callers for Deer. I have requested it in writing via email and will still post their written response for peace of mind purposes.
