Face to face with a coyote (pic)

Bob MC Yes, we are coming along. Takes alot of time and patience but events like this make it well worth it. I can understand why you are hooked on these dogs!

PrusonThanks for the tip on the swivel release. I will check it out.

Tom Conley You are absolutely correct on these dogs hunting anything! They are certified hunting machines. Thanks for the tips in your reply!

Mike Eversol This is only my second year with this dog. Last year I took her out a few times and only called one coyote while she was with me, I did not release her on the coyote, I shot the coyote and wounded it. Luna helped me locate the wounded coyote and I killed it.
Yesterday was our first time out this season and got some good action, but to answer your question, I have not had enough experience to say one way or the other. I believe in this instance the coyote pup wanted to get out of there but Luna got a good jump on her and the coyote could not out run Luna so she stopped and tried to fight. I wanted to see how far the two could go at it but the coyote would have probably bolted again and I did not want to lose it. I wanted to let Luna have the hide so she can have a reward.

I would highly recommend you guys get you a dog for hunting coyotes if it has been on your mind. It adds a whole new dimension to calling coyotes and hunting other critters.

I've got a couple of youngsters to work with myself. The old dogs aren't getting any younger! Should be a busy season.

Bear at 8 months old. Jesse at 4 months.

CatDog - Thats a neat story. Are you training Luna to hunt 'Yotes, or was this just a one time thing? In the pick Luna looks as curious as the coyote does angry.

Great story, Thanks for the picks, Sleddogg!

Those are good looking pups Bob. At least you have the older dogs to show these young ones the way, but yes, sounds like you will be busy.

Sleddog, yes, I am training her to hunt coyotes and Bobcats. She is doing alright with the coyotes but I have alot of work to do with her on a cat stand. She moves around way too much and cats pick up on motion big time, but we will keep at it, she is still young.

I thnik I would have that one blown up and framed! awesome
I haven't seen a good airedale in years ,well at least one that still had hunting ability!

Catdog, makes lugging that camera around well worth it. Love the picture. I'm trekking into the woods with a new pup as well this year. Got me a Mtn. Curr who is 7 months old. I'm looking forward to many such situations.
