Facemask for calling.....yes or no?

I've never worn a facemask when calling, don't know if this hinders my ability to call in more predators or not. I've done OK so far without one. What are your thoughts on this, do you cover your face with a mask when calling?

not all the time. i do if i remember to put it on. after going from set to set sometimes i just forget. i don't see the point in going totally sniper on them all the time. i have a beard and that's close enough for me.

I always wear a mask and wear gloves as well. The mask was always a given but I never realized how much your hands stick out if not covered.
Happy Hunting!!

All the time yes and with gloves also. The face is one of the shiniest parts of the body and in my stands my head is moving from side to side scanning. The only other part of me that moves is my hands when I am bringing the call to my mouth. My thoughts are that it is best to camo the parts of the body that are bringing the most possible attention to you.

Yes I always wear a face mask and gloves to boot. Those critters are smart enough with out me helping them.camo all over from head to toe! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No disrespect intended to anybody that uses a face mask or camo. A hunters number one enemy is movement, always has been and always well be. Some say camo helps, I think it helps the hunters confindence more then anything else. It's been proven over the years that a knowledgable predator hunter not using camo can kill as many predators as someone using camo....Good hunting

If your calling brushy country where coyotes are likely to show up very close(50 yards and under)and using a handcall wear one. It can't hurt for close range.

If your shots are usually longer than that you can leave the mask at home. I used to wear a mask all the time, and after forgetting it one trip, and still calling coyotes in that had no idea I was there I quit using it. I will wear a mask at times for the cold but not to help hide me. I can't ever remember thinking that the reason a stand went sour was because I didn't have my mask on. Movement, a poor set up, or the wind are the biggest reasons you get busted.

i use them cause i always have in bowhunting, and turkey hunting, its just habbit. but i dont always wear full camo, usualy a camo coat, and carhart bibs.

I agree with billythekids post. with that said I always camo up from head to toe because I do move slightly to scan for critters I guess it is a security blanket it makes me feel invisable. Last week I had a yote staring me in the face a 50yds max, she trotted away then I hit the pup whines and she came back apperantly I was undetected or she would have been more wary. I never did get an ethical shot so she walked.
To agree with billy's post I have had deer stand within 10 yds of my and never spook while I was wearing blaze orange Yes I did sit still as can be and was undetected.

I DO NOT wear one. Never had a yote pick me out cause he saw my face. Again the most important thing is movement! YOu can call and kill yotes all day without one.

I wear a camo mask and gloves. What about camo boots? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Or do they make these just for turkey hunting? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Facemask and gloves is a must for me, most of my stands are gonna get a Yote up close and personal, sometimes were talking 10-20 yrds! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Used to duckhunt a place over in St. Francis, Arkansas that had a blind on it me and a buddy called the Happyface blind. Every time you motored past it all you saw was two or three heads /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif poking out looking up. It was amazing how bright those faces looked sticking out from all that camo. Reinforced my self imposed face camo rule. If I'm in the woods hunting anything, I've got a face mask on.

I can tell you from watching my son that full camo makes him almost invisible. I know where he is and I can not see him until he moves. Those slight movements can be the wind with camo but move that uncovered face and there is no question what it is.

daddyflea, your talking the human eye that sees in full color, with full camo your son blends right in to the human eye that's why he is so hard to see.
Other animals don't see what we see when it comes to color. They rely more on movement.
I have called coyotes up close and they have looked right at me knowing something is there, but yet they don't run. Why is that? I'm not moving.
Big game hunters well tell you the same thing, they know something is there but as long as you don't move the animal won't spook, unless they wind you, but that's another story lol....Good hunting
