FAL or DSA experience

I shot an FAL a few weeks ago. Just wondering if anybody here had much experience with them. How acurate, how reliable, and what to look for. I can't get this rifle out of my head. How do they compare to a n AR 10.

I assume you are talking select fire, as they were designed. I have one of each and you cannot compare them, like watermellons and limes. My fal is Israli HB and shoots like a heavy gun. Low recoil and very simple design. The AR-10 is lighter weight Sudanese version and due to light weight, is difficult to control on full auto. Fal has slight rise to it and AR=10 is straight back, but due to heavy recoil from light weight, really rises between shots. AR-10 is more complex design than FAL

The is no comparison really. FALs are the most reliable rifle I have ever owned hands down by a mile. You will save $300off the price of the DSA if you build it yourself. So easy a child could do it.Mine does an inch with 40 year old surp ammo. You can build one with what ever ya want as far as wood or plastic. Many different brakes to choose from also. I bought 2 new ar10 t carbines SS with green furn and they wouldnt hold a noticable group. I returned them both the same day and got a refund. First time I ever returned a gun. They look sweet, shoot like garbage.
My lap build FAL shot loops arround both the ar10ts. Just goes to show ya why 96+ countries used it as the main battle rifle. Some still do. Not a bolt gun(accuracy) not far from it. jerryboy

I have built a few FAL rifles, I like them a bunch. I have 3 FAL's and 1 AR10T, however unlike Jerry's AR10's, mine shoots very nice 1" groups with good factory ammo and a little over 1" with cheaper hunting ammo.

I don't like the AR10 nearly as much as my FAL's, they are not as realiable as the FAL. Yes the AR10's do have minor glitches but the FAL's just keep on burning powder and throwing brass as fast as you can pull the trigger.

If I were to pick between the two for a protection rifle it would be the FAL hands down. The accuracy is plenty good for personal protection and great for hunting any size game.
Recoil is half that of the AR10 and much more comfortable to shoot due to the drop of the stock.

20 round magazines are anywhere from $4 to $30 each for the FAL and over 100 bucks each for the AR10. I'll take the FAL thank you.

FAL kits are still cheap but getting more scarce as time goes on. Try going to www.falfiles.com to get the up to date reports on the best battle rifle ever made.

Thanks guys, I was leaning heavily towards an AR 10. I've been shooting an AR 15 for a few years as my calling rifle, and thought I might like a AR 10. After shoting an FAL I wasn't sure which way to go. Got to have an FAL now.

Good Hunting

You may want to look at the new DPMS .308 AR for consideration. I believe it to be less expensive than the AR-10's and FAL. The one I have will out shoot any AR-10 or FAL I have ever shot. My experience with the FAL's over the last 30 years is they are a hell of a battle rifle, keep ticking like a Timex, and provides acceptable accuracy for what it is. I have never seen one produce match grade accuracy with any consistency but would probably be fine at any predator calling distance. I just received a DSA 16" barrel rifle in .243 last week but have not had the weather to shoot it very much so far.

check out the fal files web sight. A LOT of info there and great folks too. Warning though, the FAL BUG bites hard! if you think varmint hunting is addictive, look out! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

1 visit to FalFiles + 2 months = My "new" FAL.

The "Bug" bites real dang hard. The sound of rapid .308 fire and the looks I get at the range are priceless.

FWIW I spent $800 on mine including the spare barrel, 10 extra mags, special tools, and 400 rounds of ammo I bought. I also bought the primo furniture and fire control components.

It is possible to build one for under $500. PLEASE BEWARE the $400 Century FAL ultimate ba$tard rifle.

I just finished re-reading an article in Guns magazine from a few months ago that did a torture test on the DSA SA58 that consisted of firing 10,000 rounds (not a typo) in TWO days and the only had two minor breakages. As a plus, I hear the 20 rnd. mags they take are ALOT cheaper than the AR-10 mags.
