Favorite 50g or 55g varmint bullet

Im happy with my 53gr Vmax in my Remington .223s.
My CZ gets the 50gr Vmax
All the them are driven by a healthy dose of Benchmark.

I'm a huge fan of the 52 gr Amax. It's a "match" bullet but it performs like a "varmint" bullet no matter what anyone will tell you. If you want maximum pop factor the 55gr SPSX is a fine bullet as well, takes a slow twist barrel though to keep them from blowing up midflight.

This is my favorite middle weight 22cal bullet. It shoots extremely well in my 22in 1-9tw 223 AI and 26in 1-12tw 223 VSSF both driven by Benchmark.

FYI, the 53 Vmax will most always need at least a 1-12tw to stabilize the bullet so if your gun has a 1-14tw barrel they likely won't be the best choice for you.

I've never had much trouble getting the Vmax line of bullets to shoot well and the same can be said for Nosler's Ballistic Tip bullets, they've always shot very well too.

The Nosler BT's I've shot don't seem to be quite as explosive on varmints as the Vmax and Blitzking bullets so depending on what characteristics you want the bullet to have, it's something to consider but all three have always shot extremely well.

Finding a good varmint bullet in the 50-55gr range has never been easier as they nearly all shoot really well, it's just that some will have a little different impact characteristics.

I use a lot of the 52gr Speer FB HP in the 222 Rem, 5.6x50 R Mag and 22-250 it is very accurate and easy on pelts. 50gr NBT in the .223. 40gr NBT in the 222 Rem(small critters) and 22-204 for pelt hunting.

55 gr Nosler ballistic tip in the 6mm, 52 gr Berger in the 22/250.
Not a fan of V max or grenades

I shoot the Speer 52 gr FBHP Varmiter in my 223 for coyotes. Usually one hole in and drops them right there. I did shoot one on the run in the behind. It wasn't pretty! FPS 3250. Sure can hear the thump when it hits.

So far this is the only one I've tried and have been getting excellent results

How accurate is your dial at longer ranges. I've been tbinking about going that route

I have dials on a few of my guns. The trick is to develop your load and then go out and actually verify it. I'm kinda of skeptical of just shooting through a chrono and then using a ballistics calc and ordering one up. I actually shoot my gun at 100 yard intervals out as far is ill have the dial made and record the MOA for each range and provide the dial maker that data. Another thing you can do it dial in your scope dead nuts out at like 500 or 600 yards or what ever is a longer range and then set your dial at that range. That way you are dead on out long and if your 100 yard zero if of fa few clicks its not going to matter on a yote/deer where as being off a few at long range can lead to a miss.
