I used to call crows for shotgunning, did it for many years and put a lot of birds on the ground. As Coleridge said, if you want to kill more then use a shotgun.
But, if you are like me, there's just a lot of joy in taking them with rifles too. Granted you may only get a couple here or there, but it's a lot of fun.
Roky0702, actually I do use V-Max, though not in all my rifles. It just depends on which one I am shooting at the time. I have two .17 HMRs. One is a CZ 452 American that really likes the 20 gr. CCI Game Point. The other is a Marlin thumbhole with a heavy barrel that prefers Hornady 17 gr. V-Max. In my 6x45 AR I shoot 75 gr. Sierra HPs. That's my coyote load, accurate and so I shoot it. I shoot 60 gr. V-Max in a Stevens 223. Again, it's accurate and doubles as a coyote round. I use a 58 gr. V-Max in a .243 for crows. Devastating.
As to scopes, my CZ HMR has a Leupold Vari-X 2 4x12 A/0. The lowest power scope I use is on the 6x45 AR and that is a 3.5x10 Mueller Sport Dot. I like a variable scope since it allows me to shoot crows up close as well as distances.
Hornady 17 gr. V-Max from Marlin .17 HMR. Centerpoint 4x16 scope.
Shot this crow with a Remington model 7 .243, shooting 58 gr. V-Max.
CZ .17 HMR and 20 gr. CCI Game Point. Leupold 4x12.
Marlin 22 Magum and Remington 33 gr. V-Max, Nikon 3x9 scope
Places like this are good for crows; an old barn, cattle in the field, grain about and a nearby tree for them to perch.
If you are into numbers, then calling and shotgunning is the best way to go.
I know this is a bit off subject, and definitely a long way from where I live, but just for discussion and interest, here
is a video I shot in South Africa a few years ago, near Cape Town. I videoed a friend on a morning crow shoot.
These are pied crows and have a lot of white on them.
