Favorite caliber for shooting crows?

I've shot a few with .22 Lr.I'd shoot with my .223 if the opportunity presented itself but I've never gone after them specifically with that gun.
 
17HMR here as well, its my favorite praire dog rifle too. I have to say more varmints have fallen to my 17HMR then any other rifle I have, it just works for me. But we don't have big wood chucks around here either, and all the coons/possums/skunks I've shot were within 20-30 yards.

MPFD, Im with you on that! Im a big 22 mag fan and have had alot of fun with my 17b-mag so far. But after all is said and done I think the HMR is nw turnig into my favorite small game varmint round. Having said all that I do know onw thing. Big Dave 6mm is a crow killing SOB!!!
 
6mm06, I asked about shooting Vmax's thinking they would be safer for treetop shots. Since you are in the mountains with plenty of land you don't have to worry about that as much as long as you know where nearby houses are located. In MN I don't have that luxury, but would stick to shots at crows perched lower on branches, posts, or on the ground.

For a scope I was thinking a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x AO would fit the bill nicely. They currently have a $100 off rebate so it's only $200 and I've read reviews of the ballistic plex reticle matching the 17 HMR's trajectory pretty well. Seems like a good magnification range and excellent glass for the price.

All this talk of crow sniping has me excited to get a 17 HMR ASAP!

Unlike 6mm I don't shoot high power rifle into trees and we have lots of mountians and trees where I live. The big guns just to powerful for me! So thats why I like the 17HMR to shoot the 17HMR and 22 magnum. I shoot the v-max in both 22 and 17 mag and I like the 34gr. supremes in my 22 magnum.
 

If you could see the terrain here with miles of nothing but mountains you could better understand the tree top shots. It does depend on where you hunt and what direction you shoot. It goes without saying you can't do that everywhere. The HMR continues to shine with crows in my opinion. I shoot far more with that cartridge than anything else from trees, though I have taken a few crows with the 6x45. Many crows can be taken from trees when you have a mountain or lots of timber behind it, such as when I used a .243 a couple of times. Safety is everything.

 
I steered clear of the hmr for along time and finally caught a deal on one last year. Going to try it out on crow this season. When the terrain won't allow tree shots a good pcp airgun works well. Took this guy @ 60-70 yards in January. That shot took some holdover from the 35 yard zero. Mainly got the rifle to shoot squirrels out of trees on the ridgelines.
 

Hey, that is a nice air rifle. I have been saying for years that I will get a good one. Seems there's just always something else that takes my money first. I'm sure an air rifle is a lot of fun.

That lil rifle really surprised me. It's a CZ s200 .22 cal. If your wanting to replace .22 lr for small game hunting they are hard to beat. Crow is about as big as I would try with it , mainly use it on squirrel. It's got the acuracy to make head shots and enough punch for body shots, and it does very little meat damage.
