Favorite Deer Rifle

geeze am I the only one? I use a Winchester 1300 black shadow 12 gauge with a rifled barrel with a straight 4 power swift scope on top. I shoot 2 3/4" Winchester BRI sabot slugs.

Handi Rifle in a .243 using 95 grain Fusion. Puts them straight down. I use this round on coyotes and deer. Best combo I have ever shot for deer.

Remington Sendero 300 Win. Mag, 180gr Nosler Balistic Tips; Remington 25-06, 85gr Nosler Balistic tips and Remington 243, 85gr. Sierra BTHP's. Any one of these combos put the deer down hard!

Well, to emphasize that I've mended my wayward ways, while I've not shot a whitetail since my first back in '61, I've shot a bunch of mule deer, elk and antelope using a .270 for 'lopes and arrows, .50 & .54 ML's and 7.5X55 for deer and elk.

25-06 work pretty dang good for me. I would recopmend it to anyone.100 grain bullet make a pretty good hole.this is the exit hole on a deer i shot this year. It ruined all the meat in about a 10 inch radius.

I also use a Remington Model 721 in .270 caliber. It was my grandfathers gun he gave it to me before he passed the thing is a tack driver and it is cool to take grandpa out every year.

Treestand, Stalking and Deer Drives
.308 Winchester Model 100 Semi-Auto
180 Grain Remington Core-locks

Long Shot set-ups
.300 Win Mag Model 70
180 Grain Winchester Super X Softpoints

Well we do not have Whitetails here in Utah /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif But on muleys I shoot a 30-06. But I think that the best deer Rifle out there is a 270. Good luck

Mine is a Remington 700 Mountian LSS in 7mm-08 wearing a Burris 3-9x40 W/Ballistic Plex reticle. I shoot Speer 145 Grn HotCores and she will flat put them on the ground.

Make your first shot count!

My favorite caliber for big game hunting is the Rem .280, Almost identical ballistics as a .270 but with more bullet choices. I am sure it would make a great Whitetail caliber!

I have a Ruger M-77 .270 that has killed about every deer it has shot at, most of those are mulies, but a few whities. Good round, and the wife doesn't mind shooting it either.

Foxbuster,

Believe it or not, there are a few whitetails in Utah. Every year a few are spotted/killed up near Logan, Tremonton, Bear River, etc., and I've heard tale of a few being killed out in the Uinta Basin. Doug Miller actually highlighted a whitetail that had been killed up north a few years back.

Regards,
Buster
