Favorite Deer Rifle

Looks like the .270 is the winner in this survey. I've killed a few my Styer Mod. M in .270 but here in La. the
ranges are short and my favorite in the woods is my Rem.788 in .44 Mag. I shoot 240gr Hornady handloads at 1810fps. They don't go far.

If you talk to a lot of guides and ranchers in texas they will tell you that the 25-06 is one of the best guns on deer you can get for our sized deer. A 300 mag is too much gun, you take the risk of tearing up the meat, and a 223 or 243 is taking the risk of losing an animal. I even have a friend whose son has a 300 RUM to shoot 180 lb whitetails! Talk about overkill. Most "seasoned" hunters ( I respect my elders!) that i know all agree that anything in the 30-06 family is the way to go for deer, even the gunners guru will tell you that in this issue of Guns and Ammo in his notes in the back. My 25-06 and 270 cant be beat, and nothing new has come out and probably never will that will ever do it so much better that any normal hunter could ever tell the difference. I certainly cant speak for other states, but thats the word from those who know here in Texas.

For me my go to rifle for some of my stands with visibility
for Whitetails or for Mule Deer & Antelope is a Sendero in 25-06AI shooting the 125Gr. Wildcat at 3,250FPS & for woods and thickets a 30-06AI in a Win Mod. 70 Featherweight & I occasionally use a 450 Marlin.

Oops, sorry, to pick one, the 25-06AI !!!

ADL 270 and 130gr core-lokt for b-i-g northern whitetail. High stand-off rings for iron sight acquisition in the woods, and topped with a Fullfield II 3x9 for the grain fields.

Winchester Model 70 Synthetic in a 7 mm Remington Mag. 160 grain Federal Premium Nosler Partition. Its taken Antelope, Whitetail, Mule Deer, Elk and Moose.

I guess im gonna have to say my Remington 660 Carbine in 308 with Leupold Vari-x III 3.5-10x50 with Factory Federal Fusion 150 gr
