I don't know if the qualify as "gun writer" books, but:

Marine Sniper by Charles Henderson

In The Gravest Extreme by Massad Ayoob

'Hell, I was There' by Elmer Keith is my all time favorite. Have read it and re-read it about 7 times. If you can get them, all of Elmer's Gun Notes columns from Guns and Ammo have been compiled into two volumes. They are wonderful, also. Am going to try to by them sometime, just got them on an inter-library loan through my library.

I just finished up Craig Boddington's book, 'Safari Rifles'. He is a Kansas guy, and happened to be in the same fraternity at Kansas University as a guy from my hometown, Russell, KS. I emailed him, and got him to sign the book when I bought it from him. It is a very good read, and the autograph is pretty cool.

Regards,
Tim

This is one of the best gun books around. I got a copy on my bookshelf thats good for at least a read a year. I first read it in my teens and went out and bought a big ol' Ruger Super Blackhawk so I could shoot the big .44 like Elmer. The dude was crusty to the core and his adventures and stories are great stuff.
Ian Hogg put out some good stuff in a more informative format that is pretty good but nothing beats Keith or O'Connor (try Game of The Desert from O'Connor).

Elmer Keith, Jack O'Connor, Bob Hagel, Russell Annebell, Finn Aagard, Skeeter Skelton, Bill Jordon, Peter Capstick, and Ross Seyfried, are a few old favorite writers.

I have that book also. Old Charlie was quite a character. Not one to be trifled with either...

What, no Zumbo? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nope, no Zumbo. Honestly even before the fiasco of the AR bugaboo he wouldn't have rated with the classic gunwriters already mentioned IMHO.

Yeah, he's not in the same class as the others. We had stacks of American Rifleman at our W. V. hunting cabin as a kid. I remember reading Capstick for hours and then laying awake wondering if a mountain lion was gonna come in and snatch me out of bed and have me for dinner. That was great stuff. LOL
