Favorite Hornet Load

Bill have you tried any of the Speer 33 grain TNT's? I have some loaded but have not shot anything with them yet. I will have to agree with you the Serria 45 grain is my go to bullet in my hornet. I use AA1680 though.
 
Bill, I enjoyed your post on the hornet, I have seen much the same performance but have failed to write it down. Two things you may want to try though are the 30 grain Calhoon with H110 and a little more Lil Gun with the 40 grain sierra hornet. I worked up to 13 grains and didn't think kt was accurate enough and looking at the Hodgden manual they gave the pressure at 28400 so I upped it by .2 and was surprized at the difference in accuracy. I have 3 hornets, a Brno hornet sporter that I just acquired and two C Z 527s an American and a full stock.

My Ruger M77 is the standard sporter with the 20" barrel and is not the 'K' version. The Timney spring & sear kit helped improve accuracy, as did Lilgun and small pistol primers. Also, I use a Lee Collet Die to neck size only.

I can't place my finger on any one item which made it shoot, it's really a combination of all. While working up loads, I increased the powder charge by .2grs at a time. Small changes in a Hornet add up fast due to the tiny case.
 
I had a ruger #3 that shot 12.0g of 296 with a 50g Nosler Ballistic tip into a single ragged hole at 100 yards! Should have never sold that rifle!
 
Sierra 40 grain "hornet" bullet,on top of 13.5 of AA1680,lit with a Win. or Fed small pistol primer,amazing accuracy, at least out of a CZ 527 and a ruger I had.
 
Thanks everybody for the input, I have started to getting together the a number of the componets you all have suggested. This is going to be a real fun project. I had a Feral cat come by at dusk last night that was driving my dogs crazy. Wish I would have had the Hornet. It would have been a good way to break it in. I will post pics when I have the gun and the 22/hornet project complete.

Lots of great info for you here.
Inside 100 yards, the 33 tnt can do some incredible groups, and is very explosive.
One powder that has worked very well for me but I haven't seen mentioned is imr4227. It has done some great things in all the hornets I have loaded with it. Might be something to try, expecially in the lower weight bullets.
 
I have not been able to get the 33gr. TNT's to shoot in my Cooper. Someday, somebody is going to get a real deal on a 1000 of them. The 37gr. Calhoon's work best for me.
