Favorite Leupold reticle??

When i killed this coyote @ 435 last season, it was a simple matter of ranging him, referencing the drop chart (1.5 mil), put that zero on him and tripping the trigger. I would also like the reticle to go down to about 3mils also--that's all i really need, but it doesn't work that way, when i wanted a mil reticle with that much windage reference in it below the optical center of the scope. This and Horus r the only 1's--

...now if i were hunting from a treestand, i'd be using a factory Striker with a 2-7 Burris probably, but in this country this kind of reticle shines. Besides that it's really cool!

The long range duplex is very simple, but I think it only comes on VXI and VXII. I have it on two of my rifles. Very simple to use and gives you 2 holdover dots, without cluttering up the retricle.

The TMR is my favorite Leupold reticle.
My favorite reticle is Holland's ART (MOA version).

The MOA is listed internally in the optic, ever 3MOA and you have a mark every 1.5MOA. The main use of this reticle is not for reticle ranging although I would do that out to 500 yards or so.

The main use is for extremely quick shooting in the field. Like other reticle that have many lines or dots, it is easy to lose track of where you are-Not so with the Holland ART.

From the main crosshair, going down vertical is in MOA, although on the right it does show where the 4 MIL mark is.

The horizontal line and the vertical above the main cross-hair is in MIL for Mil-Ranging. Just think of it as a yardstick. It also has 2MOA and 4MOA marks for wind hold-offs coming down from the main crosshair.

How often is "extremely quick shooting in the field" exercised at yardages that such a reticle is "needed". I'm guessing not very often. Anything far away enough to "need" such a reticle can also easily be ranged with a rangefinder and shot with a plain old duplex with time to spare.

If you guys love wasting your money on gimmicky magical reticles that cost tons of money, so be it. Fact is, they do nothing a rangefinder and a duplex don't do in the hands of a knowledgeable shooter.

I've no problem with it, honestly. It's just that some guys here think that fancy equipment is some kind of substitute for shooting skill. Buying a racecar don't turn you into the next winner at the Indy 500. I'm not saying you, cuz I don't know you well enough. And I know that SSC knows his stuff also, and can shoot. But some of the weekend warriors around here that watch Best of the West just don't get it.

"Here try my new reticle, it is designed for 500yd + snap-shooting........." Please......

I do it the same way, only with a rangefinder and a duplex. My rangefinder works with whole bunches of scopes, not just one. Therefore it costs a lot less money than buying magical reticled scopes for all my rifles.. The drop charts are taped to my rifles.

Just bustin' your balls a bit........grins. I do like some of your scopes and enjoy hearing about them. I just can't figure out why I would need them.........

I only reticle range when technology goes to pot or when the atmospheric conditions negate the use of a LRF. Which is not very often, but when it is needed it is nice to have it at my disposal.
I use a Swarovski LRF for my uses.
I also shoot a tactical or field match a couple of times each year. The Leupold with ART is a FFP scope btw.
I typically dial for wind, but use the reticle for distance.

I own several different types of scopes for LR shooting and hunting, some are plex, others are dot. I am just listing my preferred. I am more than web shooter, but the only way you can know that for sure, is to check some places where I have been for a long time. I also shoot in a couple of 1,000 yard matches each year. What makes me a odd-duck is that I do all of this with several different specialty pistols, yes, even the tactical matches.

Go to this site http://www.dlsports.com/
and look under "competition" and then click on the ITRC 2009 article and video.

If you look in the 2004 pics you will see when sscoyote & I were teamed up to be the first ever all handgun team competing in ITRC.
My partner, Wayne using the Rock River AR Pistol, also used a ART reticle in a 3.5-10 VX-3.
Goal for next year: Top 10!

Like I said, I don't know you well enough. You seem to know your stuff.

I've owned Shepherd scopes, various ballistic plex type scopes, mil-dots, etc. I prefer A Leupold with M1's and a duplex. Nothing fancy, just works. None are FFP.

Seems you and SSC should get along splendidly as both of have the same tastes in LR pistolas and scopes.......

Nice. You edited your post before I finished mine. Did not know you knew SSC. It is good to have another knowledgable shooter on board.......

Steve (sscoyote) and I have been friends, since we first met in Greeley, CO back in the mid-80's. We have shot, hunted and competed together since that time. I am the one who encouraged him into using specialty pistols.
Steve is the one who put me on to PM. Steve also has a number of articles in Varmint Hunter Magazine, Small Caliber News (when it was active) and several in Precision Shooting (and sister publications) as well.

That ITRC competition looks WAY cool.....

It is way fun, for sure!
Most of my writing is at longrangehunting.com ,handgunhunt.com , and specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve
I also wrote an article for Dakota Arms Magazine (now defunct) about my 7mm Dakota center-grip XP-100 and LR shooting and hunting.

I still go to LRH a bit. Don't post much though. I liked Ian's stuff. He was an old timer who seemed to have it right.......
