What are your favorite prey in distress sounds? I am wondering about which JS cds to buy to put on my MP3, or any other brand of CD that might have good sounds. I hate the old tapes that play the same thing over and over. Are there unique sounds on a CD or for Download that you find especially effective, and are willing to let the cat out of the bag on? For coyotes mostly. I know that dying chicken on varmint al's sounds interesting, though it isn't a live chicken. howa bout a feeding coyote in the background of an aspecially excited rabbit? Or maybe a Fox-in-distress sound...etc, thanks, Dan
 
I have a MP3 that came with some sounds on it. Several are combos.

The one that works best so far is one with Crows and a Jack rabbit.

I think that in theory, a Coyote pup fighting with a rabbit would be interesting. I don't have that one though.

Buying a CD is in my estimation the best medium to get rock solid sounds into your MP3. I have tried to get stuff off the internet and it's spotty at best!

Real Calls/div of G.A.M.E.C.O. Inc "Cottontail Rabbit Distress Cries" is the most effective commercially-available sound I've used to date. Don't know if it is available on CD, I've got an old scratchy tape. This rabbit has a "kick" to his cry that is really urgent. Needs to be heard to be appreciated; might also mention that anyone new to handcalling would do well to find a copy for study--it's that good.

JS Grown Cottontail and Vittles A'la Jackrabbit have been effective for me, too, and are both available on the Coyote Calling Volume III CD.

Much of the time these days, I'm playing sounds I've recorded myself. Some are live-recorded like mice, some are my recorded handcall and lipsqueak sequencess which have proven been more effective for me than ho-hum commercial live-prey recordings.

Not so far... though I have been dangling those three blind baby California mice over on the Cats For Katrina auction as a coaxer noise and they seem to be working good to bring 'em in for a closer look /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now that I've had a couple such requests, maybe I'll have to run the numbers by my accountant and draw up some kind of a business plan. (Note to self: last time I did this the conversation ended with "Whattaya mean I've been working for $.29/hour!!!")

Well unfortuanately Cats for Katrina went past the budget my wife would allow, even with the extra incentives thrown in. But my wife does like the print and I may see about purchasing one after the holidays.

Bobcat 1 and Predator 1... That gives you two cottontails, three birds, a rodent, a puppy, and kitten.... devastating on rural and urban coyotes, bobcats, and foxes. If I added a third JS cd to the list, it'd be Coyote 3, another conttontail, a jackrabbit, a piglet, and a deer fawn.

LionHO, Any idea where to find the cassette from real calls that you mentioned. I've searched but no luck so far. Always looking for that extra edge. Searching is half the fun though. Thanks

Someone mentioned they saw copies come up on on Ebay once in awhile. I could stand to find a newer cleaner copy than my c.1986 cassette tape, so if you do run one down, report back in to let us know.

Interesting to recall that I once bought some other company's bunny, the name of which I've long since forgotten, only to discover it was a bootleg recording of the Real Calls tape. (At least I think it was; it sounded third-generation. Since Gerald is participating in this thread, hopefully he'll set me straight if I'm wrong. Wouldn't want to give props to any company that abused copyright laws. All I really know for sure about the history here is that I plunked down my $9.95 for it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
