I was just wondering what everyones favorite rifle is for hunting bushytail tree rats.My favorite is a CZ 452 FS (full stock) with leupold ultralight 3x9 with 32 mm objective. It has a two pound trigger pull with aftermaket trigger.Of course it is chambered in the classic 22lr.It shoots several match loads into 1/2 inch at 50 yds but best of all it shoots cheap federal gameshocks into less than an inch.I considered Cooper,Kimber, and Anschutz but really wanted a mannlicher style rifle.I think wood all the way to the muzzle is very handsome. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Mine is a Winchester 1906 (Gallery Gun). 22S, 22L, 22LR. Open sights. Shoots about 1.5 inches at 50 yds. but it never seems to miss /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hey
thats interesting..I like to shoot them with my 10/22
ruger international (mannlicher stock) It shoots pretty well
but is no tack driver. It could use a better trigger. But i agree it is a pretty thing.Looks like this but it is stainless. I also hunt snowshoes with it.

I have several rimfire rifles, however, my nostalgic favorite is my old Original Golden Marlin M39A.

Here's my favorite.
Marlin 983 .22mag wrap-around fore-end fleur de luis checkering dark wood, one of the more "prettier" rimfire's out there I think. It needs a new scope, better than the bushy on there now.

Marlin 882 SSV ... a synthetic, stainless heavy barrel in .22 mag.

Can't eat our variety .... the California ground squirrel .....

..... blows 'em to pieces ..... all DOA!

I love my .410 semi auto for the tree rats. I think it works alot better than the .22lr. With the .22lr i think the bullets are a little to fast at closer ranges and just pass thru with little damage.(depends on where you hit) The .410 you get alittle more knockdown and shock factor with it.

The 10/22 works great, but i have been hunting alot with a NEF SS 410, for some reason i just love rabbit hunting w/ this gun too. Getting started on a single shot as a youth seems to make you alot better shot too.

For open woods, after the leaves have fallen I love my Savage 17hmr, topped with a BSA Platinum 8-32x44.

Early season I use my Henry Lever 22lr, iron sights loaded with bulk pack hollow points.

Sometimes I take out my NEF 410 but its just not as fun.

My current favorite is a Rem. 541T. Before this is was a Rem 513, which is more accurate, just a little heavy to drag around the woods anymore. Also use a Marlin 39 and the marlin 17hmr. Like them all, Here in Pa. we cannot use a semi-auto so that rules out the fun ones like the 10/22 and Remington nylon 66.

My all time favorite is my Rem 541, excellent rifle for head shots (1/2 5 shot groups at 50 yards). I also like my CZ 452 in 17Hmr (very accurate), and for a semi auto, I have a 10/22 with a Clark custom barrell.
