Federal .22-250 Brass

I found new Federal .22-250 brass for sale. I've never loaded Federal brass, Remington only. My question is do any of you like Federal brass? Does it reload and hold up as well as Remington brass?

Thanks,

John

John, I shot a lot of it

34.5g of H4895, Win primer, 55g Sierra #1350, great coyote killing load.

38.0g of H380, 55g Sierra #1390

Also tried working on a load with 34.5-35.5g of IMR 4064, with a fed 210, Sierra 55g #1390. 35.5g opened up the pockets.

If you really want to shoot hot loads, Fed brass will not hold up, but with brass availability non existent, we have to adapt to what we can have on hand.

An RCBS crimp removing tool will tighten up the pockets just a little.

I have tried federal in 243, 270, and 30-06 my experience has been loose primer pockets after just a few loadings. I do tend to work on the warm side but still substantially shorter brass life than Rem or Win. Never tried it in 22-250 still working with a big lot of Win brass I managed to get a hold of.

I've not used 22-250 federal brass, but have shot thousands of FC stamped 223rem. It's thinner, no doubt, so it does take a beating faster. It takes a touch more powder to get to the same primer response too - little more velocity at the same pressure, basically. I don't do it this way, but I suppose a guy could run a bit lighter load at the same velocity and get a little better life. I wouldn't think it would mean longer life than Rem or Win though.

I also shoot it in 32 H&R, started with a thousand pieces several years ago.

If I have any discomfort in using it, it's only because I read online how bad it is so often, but I can't say I've had any problems or disappointment with it. It lasts long enough for me in the loads I use it in.

The last .22-250 brass I acquired, was 500 pieces of Lapua, given to me, for free, by the importer, for evaluation

For .46 per brass I can live with it if I could get 3-4 loadings. Don't feel so bad when it gets lost in the weeds that way.
