Question are the Federal Premium High Density shotshells the equivelant of the Remington HD ammo or Hevishot????

Any experience or input on this ammo is appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dogboy, I searched around and did not find any good information. Federal just compares it to steel and says it is 25% heavier than steel. They do not say it is denser than lead. They do say the High Density shot has more pellets per ounce than standard shot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif What the hell is standard shot? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif If it has more pellets than standard shot per ounce, that means each pellet is lighter. I think I would rather shoot standard shot since it is heavier than the Federal High Density Shot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Federal says it is 20% softer than steel.

I will pull a box off the shelf in the morning and cut some open. I will measure the density of the shot and see if it looks like the Rem HD or if it looks like Heavi-Shot.

Fed HD is slightly less dense than lead and available in bigger shot sizes such as b or bb I don't remember which one but which ever it is I've shot yotes with them but might as well use lead for less money. Federal heavyweight is alot heavier than lead and a good bit heavier than hevi shot but its very expensive and hard to find plus only available in 5,6,7 shot sizes but they'd work on yotes but for the money they cost theres lots better out there.

I cut open one of the BB+ size loads and measured the density of the shot in water. The density is only 9.8g/cc a good bit shy of lead but 24-25% more than steel. The shot has a bit of a band around the middle much like the Remington HD but roughly 20% less dense. I think for the price, I would go with the Remy load.
