First set of the evening found me at a small dairy farm that I hunt. Winds were low out of the NW and temperature was 15 degrees. There are 4 pastures divided by a 2 track that shoots up the middle I hugged a patch of brush along the 2 track and set the caller upwind of me about 60 yards. Started with MFK Squeaky Squeaky low and ramped it up over a few minutes. After a few minutes of quiet I let BFA Smooth Talker run through its file and again gave about a minute or two of silence before running BFA Koda And Beans Duo. At about the 15 minute mark I scanned behind me through the brush to pick up a pair slipping in from the west. First time ever from that direction on this farm. I was able to pick up and rotate my tripod 180 degrees and get on them cleanly through a hole in the brush. They must have heard me squeaking and crunching on the snow because they started to retreat back towards the woodline on the west side of the pasture. I gave them a quick woof and one stopped broadside at about 140 yards. The 55 gr NBT from my 243 dropped a heavy female with authority. She flipped and rolled around for a few seconds before lying motionless. Number 2 refused to play anymore to kiyi’s or pup distress. I walked out to pick up my prize and she was quite messy! That little bullet destroyed her pump house to put it mildly!
Parvo strikes again!
