Female Coyote Whimper

With a break in the wind the other day I decided to run out and do a little calling. I started the first stand with a few lone howls, and had what sounded like a female whimper back at me. I for the life of me could not get the darn thing to commit, and was wondering what types of male howls would draw a submissive female in? Or would I have been better off trying some type of distress? Thanks in advance!

I'd try a lone, non threatening howl. Don't overdo it, and watch closely. This is the kind of situation when I believe a coyote decoy can help.

I have thought about that quite a bit. But most of the places I call I'm usually walking at least a half mile in, so I've condensed my gear down quite a bit. Thanks for the tips possumal!

Sometimes if the female is not ready to breed she will growl, yip or whimper keeping the male at a distance until she is ready... Most female coyotes are monogamous and she can distinguish the voice of her mate from other coyotes... She will still defend her territory however... Like possumal suggested I try to sound non threatening... A lot of times when you get a vocal response they are warning the other coyote to leave their territory...
