FFP Scopes around $1000 for PRS Competitions

What are you guys using? I just ordered at Rem 700 PCR and need an optic around $1000
Currently looking at Leupold #174509
not sure what else to consider. any thoughts appreciated

Stick with the SS line. Demo 900 bucks for a 1500 scope. Unlike a vortex you won't need their lifetime no questions asked warranty. Just saying.

I have 2 Vortex HS LR with the XTR MOA reticle and like them. I have not shot the Leupold 174509 but would like to try one, weight looks good and I like the reticle. Have shot the Burris XTR, part of the reticle disappears at high magnification. I have one SWFA which I bought on their Black Friday sale. I like the features and glass of the Vortex, being a veteran they take very good care of me so I'm sticking with them.
 
I see an awful lot of vortex scopes at a plate match we have been shooting. They must work pretty good. Still though for the $1000 budget you are looking at, whatever you buy should be pretty good. Our personal crew has a little bit of everything (1- Schmitd & Bender, 1 Kahles, 1 Burris, 1 vortex and several Leupolds). Vortex or Leupold I would think would have the most re-marketability of the others in the $1k range when you decide to upgrade. My uncle just bought the Leupold #: 172347 and seems to like it real well (Same as the one you are mentioning but is 8.5X25 with 1/10mil clicks and the TMR reticle).

I got to look through a new Nikon Black at the range the other day. Seemed like a pretty nice scope. Don't know much about it or if its even anything your interested in.

Yeah, they work "pretty good." Almost as well as their Warranty Department does. Get that number handy as it will likely be needed.
 
No fault in the SWFA at all, they are solid scopes for sure. They are, however, a bit dated and missing a few things that make life easier in PRS style shooting.

The reticle choices are pretty slim, and the lack of a real zero stop is a killer.

Zero Stop is easily and cheaply rectified. But I do see their downfalls in regards to options, especially reticles (though I do like the Mil-Quad).
 
The SWFA zero stop fix is functional, but far from ideal. A true, integral and easily adjustable ZS would be considerably more attractive.
 
Im thinking of upping the budget to $1500-1600 and waiting another few weeks...the Bushnell Tactical Elite HDMR II is very intriguing, i have a few more options at that price point
 
That is smart upping the budget a little. At that price point if you are a little bit patient, you could get into a used Night Force NXS 5.5x22 or better. The thing I worry about the most is the tracking when you constantly move knobs up and down / left and right at every stage. I want the best tracking repeatability that I can afford. At those price points, all of the glass is going to be descent. There is some good reading material on a Precision Rifle shooters blog. You can pay special attention to the section "What the Pro's use". If those guys are using it and are in the top 100 in the nation, it probably works pretty good.

Good choice.
Spot-on tracking, plenty of elevation, lifetime warranty.
Check out the G2DMR reticle option.

How about a Steiner T Series or the Athlon Cronus BTR? Please give us a call to see what would be best for you
 
I have the Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 that I have been using for PRS and I love it. I looked at everything in that price range and picked the PST and I don't regret it on bit. The turrets are much better than the Leupold in my opinion. I recently looked at the Nikon and that would be my second choice in that price range.
 
ive been back and forth for several weeks, and i think for the $ the nikon is the way to go...now to decide between 4-16 or 6-24 and MIL or MOA.
