Field and stream scopes

It sure is great to be with a group that knows everything and only buys the best. I have bought in my 60+ years as many scopes as anyone here, some were great some were junk, i love you guys that will pay $300+ for a name, it's whats keeping some of our "name" companies in buisness.

I don't care what you know, you started at the begining not knowing anything, just like the rest of us. A lot of the people here are just getting started, and probably trying to pay the bills, feed the family AND go hunting.

The type of scope that works best for someone is Very subjective to that persons eye sight. No one is saying that cheap glass is as good as good glass.

Now as for that $109 wtc, yes it works great for me, i put it on a savage fvss and it's banging plates at 600yd, and yes i will be putting on a weaver before i go to 1000yd. However i saved $300 on that 600yd scope over what it would have cost to put a weaver on it for that range, doesn't work for you? o well. blue

I saw that Natchez has the Simmons WTC's on sale right now for $60 for the 3.5-10x and $80 for the 6.5-20. Sounds like a heck of a deal, if they are as good as people say. I know they are not a Swaro or Zeiss, but they might be just the ticket for some of us. Right blue? I am with you!

I was in Bass Pro a few day ago and was scope shopping. I looked at a VX-3 6.5x20, a Ziess Conquest and a Nikon Monarch. In MY OPINION, the Nikon, for $500.00 less, was by far the clearest scope of the three. I can hear it already, I'm crazy, but it was to me hands down clearest of the bunch. Like I said, IMO.

$80 is a good deal for the 6.5-20 wtc, ...if it works for your eyes, i'm glad it does for me. I still think that the best way to buy a scope if you can is to go some place with a good selection of glass and look through them all, just like pyscodog did, thanks kevlars. blue

So wasting their hard earned money on junk is the answer? I can pretty well promise you I've owned far more scopes than you have. There are 40 scope boxes atop my safe now. That doesn't begin to paint the picture. There is a lot more to a scoope than the glass. You'll learn that one day. Simmons WTC is a POS........

That pretty much sums it up. Too bad most have to learn the hard way.......

Everybody is happy for you that you can afford the best, 2much. However the poor guy who would like to go hunting will buy what he can, so he can go.

Why would he be better off sitting at home getting older when he could be hunting instead? Your statement is kinda like saying, i can't afford most expensive truck out there, so i'll just walk.

Your statement that you have owned more scopes than me, when you don't know me or what i have done in my life, ... is to be polite, simply stupid. blue

It sucks being in the middle. I understand where Blue and 2much are both coming from. I want a good scope that will last. I purchased a new TV last week, mine took a dump. The wifes washer took a dump this week, so I have to replace it this week. Its kinda hard for me to shell out a grand for a scope right now, even though my rifle is just setting in the corner. A good scope for a 100 bucks sounds good till you have to replace it, maybe, a couple of weeks later. A friend told me he has a WTC on a rifle of his for years and it works great. Problem is, he very seldom shoots the rifle. Its a safe queen.

most of those "names" also have the best warranties. leupold and burris come to mind.

So how many scopes have you owned? I can put my money where my mouth is, trust me.

I'm thinking anyone who can come up with $100 for a scope, can probably come up with $150 (for a Weaver, of course)and have it be money A LOT more well spent.

I have seen MANY broken scopes in my time. More than most would believe. I started off not knowing myself, and wasted my money on crap also. Just trying to save a member the grief.........

Over my years of shooting, I've owned the cheap scopes, figuring that they all 'can't be junk' and have been pleasantly surprised by some, saddened by others...

I have a couple of BSA's that, while I've heard some people curse them, mine have functioned for years without any problems..I have a couple of older Tasco's that are equally as good..

I will not deny that the chances of getting a bad scope start diminishing as you increase in price and reputation, but there are times in everyone's life when 'cheap' is all you can afford...and someone asking about a specific brand/model of anything deserves an honest and straight forward answer.....Then, if the need to pontificate overcomes you, blast away...

The older Tascos are much better than the newer ones.

Looked through a couple BSAs and the look "yellow" to me. Saw a brand new one break 2 weeks ago. Along with 2 Simmons and 2 Tascos. All 5 in 10 hrs of helping "the public" sight in their guns at our club. Within the last 2-3 years, my friends and I have broken 2-3 Bushnells(2 Trophy, 1 Banner) 3 Burris FFII's, 1 Aetec. We use Leupold and Weaver far more and have broken none in 15 years. That's just my experience.

You are correct that everyone is entitled to an honest opinion. It's just that some don't like what they hear, I guess......

$150 for a Weaver Classic 3-9x38 or even less on a Weaver K 2.5x20. Have used both extensively for years. The Weaver Classic V, T and K series are quite simply the best scopes in their price range, hands down. Matter of fact, they are better than some others costing much more IME........

Amen.
My comment about flushing the $60 down the toilet still stands, and it was an honest reply. I'm trying to save the guy $60, and the ankle biters here can't see that.
Lurker made that point in his post about all the money he wasted on cheap scopes. I did the same thing, so I'm attempting to advise the guy about not doing the same thing I did early on.

Once again OT explains it with out the, shall i say "enthusiasm" of myself, 2much and others.

Coyote grimreaper, sorry for taking off on your thread. 2much, i guess it doesn't matter who has owned the most scopes. And as sweattybetty so dipomaticly observed, yes we are pretty thick skinned here. blue
