FINALLY got a bobcat. Updated Pics of him on the board.

First, that is a beautiful cat and congrat's on your first one. From experience, I would keep it and have something done with it. I didn't keep my first, in fact it was probably somewhere between 15 - 18 before I had one mounted and I only did that because my wife was with me and we called two that morning and she got really excited about them. The cat I mounted was a very pretty cat about 26 ½ pounds and was special because I shared the experience with my wife one very cold December morning. But I realize this wasn’t the biggest cat I have killed and now regret not mounting at least one or two others because they were a good step up in size from this cat. Both of those were killed with my dad who now can’t get around in the woods well enough to go anymore and I wish I had one of those bigger cats killed with dad on the wall now. Same for my son, I called his first cat for him and he just wouldn’t let me mount it and he wouldn’t do so because he was saving for a new Benelli shotgun and we sold it for gun money. Yours is your first and it has taken five years to get, plus it is awfully pretty and knowing what I know now if it were me I would keep it. I understand not having a lot of room for it - why not sock it and hang it in an out of the way spot? Less room and still looks great. Hate to see a "first" go off to the fur buyer - I wish I had mine.

yes split the tail just like any other lohg haired fur. you dont have to pin it open or anything and on a late season cat you could prob get away without splitting it but why chance hair slip

If you do a good put up that cat is going to be hard to beat at an auction in my opinion. From the pictures he looks really good. One of the widest bellies I have seen in a while.

when putting them up. Pull that tail base as far down as you can. try to square it off a little more

You will be very pleased with the price on that cat nice wide "A" belly on it.

Whats the nose to base of tail measurement?
 
Man, that’s awesome, congrats! I have to agree w/GC. Forget what this one is worth and mount it or something. The memories will last a lifetime which is worth far more than a couple hundred dollar pelt.

Again, awesome job and way to stay disciplined!

Whats the nose to base of tail measurement? ........ The nose to tail measurement is a little over 36 inches. He was killed at a hair over 7000 feet in elevation. As far as the bottom of the cat by his tail, I'm not sure there is anything I can do about it now because it is pretty dry already. It sounds like I may have messed that part up cause your the 3rd person to mention it. I'll do better next time. Hopefully it wont be another 5yrs before I kill my second. I believe I found a decent spot holding some cats.
