Finally got my Michigan bobcat!

Check out this pretty cat my son caught! And yeah, it’s pretty to us, most of ours are what they call rabbit backs.

His buddy had some coyotes on camera and my son went and put in a couple of sets. Of course the first two checks produced two cats, lol.

So they skin it for you?
No. I had to bring them them the hide, and the skinned carcass (they want the head but I brought them the hole carcass). They remove my kill tag from the hide and put their tag on it which they refer to as "sealed" Shown in post #27. They keep the head to do whatever it is they do to them.

My taxi is a friend of mine in Alto. I'd like to have it mounted just sitting the way it was when I pulled the trigger. We looked at a few forms the other day. He'll order me one when the hide gets back from the tannery.
Michigan born and raised,I've never heard of Alto. I looked it up, there's lots of places in that area I'm not familiar with. There's even an Alaska !

Alaska was the home of the original Sam's Joint back in the day. There used to be another one in Coopersville. They are all closed now.

I looked at some forms again yesterday. There aren't a lot of options for a sitting cat, and the ones available are almost all too small. I did find one in the McKenzie catalog that I like and I think might fit. I think I will see if he can get that one for me.

If you can get a form that's close , they can be added to and/ or reshaped depending on the need. Bondo and expanding foam are a taxidermist friend. Predators need the eyes to be correct and have that look into your soul stare .

I would be willing to bet more bobcat mounts are butchered than any other creature. Even excellent deer, duck, and fish guys can't do a bobcat worth a damn. I would really want to see the work of the taxidermist on bobcats before I would let one touch my cat.

+100 !

I normally judge a taxidermist's quality based on their predators . If those are good ,they can do most any animal well.

Have a lady about an hour from me that loves doing bobcats. She said they are her favorite to do.

A good taxidermist will tell you if they do predators or not. Our deer taxidermist will flat out tell you that he can’t do it justice. Deer and fish and some small game he can make look alive…cats he can’t and won’t touch them.

This guy mounts everything for me. I've known him for about 15 years now, drank more beer in his shop than my wife will ever know about! LOL He did my full body coyote last year.
