Well prostate issues and as Vinnie Barbarino used to say on 'Welcome Back Kotter'-"up your nose with a rubber hose" my rubber hose (which for 6 weeks wasn't up my nose
, was removed last Wednesday. I felt good enough after the Mar. 17th surgery to make some 'close to the suv sets'. Made 3 sets Sun. night with no action. Got lucky on Mon. night in the 2nd set.
I am set up next to one of 3 trees in a hillside pasture looking downhill with a SW wind coming from my rt. The call is about 50yds to my rt. This pasture forms a steep hollow with lots of undulations then goes back up to another ridge. Over this next ridge is where I heard the howling. I waited until 11pm to hunt tonight because it was supposed to get cloudy but had stars ruled the sky. 98% brightness so he was very skittish.
Howled on the "critter caller" a few times and got a faraway multiple coyote answer over the next ridge. Too far to come, I am sure but at least I heard some. After a couple minutes I hit the critter caller again, then answered with the diaphragm. Got a single howl from them but still the same distance best I could tell.
Sat silent for about 10-12min then hit a pr howl. Shortly thereafter I see a head straight in front of me about 70 yds. Slowly get out of the scanner and into the gun, but it is gone. A few min. later I see it on the next hillside and get a glimpse of a second. I hit my coaxer which is a pup distress, which did get it's attention, and he kinda start coming then didn't. I change to TT den raid hd and he commits-the other is nowhere to be seen. Vid tells the rest. I figure he is looking back at the other and might leave so take the neck shot.
First kill with my groundog gun (204 Model 11 savage with 39gr SBK) Check out the swollen neck where it didn't exit. Seems like my Oneleaf may have change POI
. I missed a coyote on 2-16 at about 220yds plus the last 3 I shot at around 100 were all hit low. I just got to check it this Sat., and it was 4-5" low at 200.
1:21am 110yds per onx 26min in set. I am certain these were not the ones I heard as I was scanning the hillside they would have had to have come down.
Stayed in set 15 more min with kiyi for the first 5 to no avail. Felt good to get back out!
I ORIGINALLY MOVED THE WRONG FILE TO YTUBE & just now saw my mistake so this is the edited clip.
