Firearms in gereral, how do they compare to weapons of yesteryear ?

The facts are that well over 100 years ago there were rifles that were capable of shooting sub MOA groups. The glass was crap compared to what we have today but there were a few rifles that had 6X or so power scopes on them. Heck, even in the war between the states there were snipers with muzzle loaders and 4X scopes that could pick off a hapless soldier at over 400 yards. And a hit anywhere in the body meant a dead guy. Weren't no ER's to shuffle them off to back then to save them.

Do guns shoot better today then they did 30 years ago? I would say so for the most part. On average they do. But the most accurate off the shelf rifle that I ever owned was a Ruger M77V in .220 Swift that I bought 40 years ago. My current Swift might shoot a little bit better, but heck- its barrel alone cost more than double for what I paid for the entire rifle out the door back then.
