First night out with ATN X-sight 4k 5x20 and Leupold LTO Tracker HD Thermal Imaging Monocular

Hey guys.. first time posting to the site. So bare with me.

Went out the other night for the first time with my new setup. I went with the ATN 4K 5x20 scope and the Leupold LTO Tracker HD Thermal Imaging Monocular. Had an awesome night. Called in 4 dogs on 3 sets. Unfortunately I either missed the first one or grazed his leg. I've reviewed the footage and still can't come to a conclusion but regardless he wasn't in the bed of the truck when I left. 2nd set I sealed the deal no issues. 3rd set I had 2 options for my setup and chose the wrong spot by about 30 yards. Wind was in my face with a little finger of some taller grass and trees behind me so I figured there was no way they'd come from there but I was wrong. Had the pup distress playing and was scanning with my thermal Monocular and about the time I heard something I turn to my left and 1 of the 2 literally ran right over top of legs! Idk who jumped more him or me but needless to say they both bolted. Tried barking few times and I couldn't get them to stop so I didn't even fire a shot. Figured I didn't wanna completely blow my chances of them coming in at a later date. Just wanted to share my thoughts on the 4k night vision scope and the thermal monocular.

I'll start with the scope. I love it!! Updated the firmware before I even turned the scope on and knock on wood I had no issues with the scope freezing or anything like some of the reviews I read before buying had. The video footage ended up being grainy but with that said it was bright enough that when I turned on the illuminator while looking through the scope it didn't seem to make any difference so I left it off. Maybe that would have helped but I don't think so. Overall I really like the scope and hope I can fine tune the settings. Does anyone know what the best settings are for video footage at night?

As far as the Leupold LTO Tracker HD Thermal Imaging Monocular goes I'm really impressed with it and have no complaints. For the price and what im using out for it works great! It was a store floor model and I got it on ebay for $600.

Glad it is working for you. Most people who have used the Leupold have stated about all it can do is find downed deer and even that with a limited range. It simply doesn't have enough range for a coyote scanner. Apparently, so far it is working for you. Please be careful because with low-end scanners and scopes (whether thermal or night vision) there is a more inherent risk of shooting something you are not intending.

In addition, when you are only seeing maybe 50 yards, what is beyond your target and how many coyotes are showing up that you never even knew where there. I'm not trying to be negative towards your post but have seen many more that would state the opposite saying the Leupold doesn't have enough range to be a good coyote scanner. I hope it continues to work well for you.

Upload your videos to youtube. I use free windows movie maker to edit them first. Once it is uploaded to youtube, select your thumbnail pic at the bottom of the page, publish it public not private by hitting the publish button upper right side of your screen. Now copy the URL for your published video. In your post here on PM, position your cursor where you want the video to appear in your post. Click on the 5th box in the tool bar. It looks like a blue square. When the info box pops up, select youtube then paste your URL in the box provided for it. Hit submit and you are done. Just reply here or PM me if you need help.

It sounds like your IR light is not properly positioned since turning it on did not help. It is easy to leave your IR light on by mistake. Make sure you have a fresh battery in your light. Don't look into your IR light but hold your hand right in front or your IR and you should see a soft red glow of the IR light just to make sure it is working. In the dark with your rifle on a solid rest, loosen your IR mount and move the IR light around. Looking through the scope, you should instantly see when the IR beam is pointed where your scope is pointing. The view will light up. Work with your beam to center the IR light where your scope is looking.
