First of the Season

Took this young male a few days ago with a shotgun. He came in after a few minutes of calling then turned and left. Hit him headed away at about 40 yards. Not a very dense pattern at that range but a single pellet entered his head just behind the ear and dropped him.

Are you running TSS shot? I don't know much about shotgunning coyotes, but I know TSS is a game changer. Assuming an appropriate choke, 40 yards is not far for TSS.

No nothing that fancy. Just 2 3/4 #4 buck. For this load 40 yards is about the max range. If the one pellet didn't hit him in the head he would not have gone down.
